A buddy of mine that's a home inspector put a lift on his Outback and added some AT tires. He would throw the kayak on top, for lakeside for homes.... and take that thing up into some pretty rough construction sites. Plus he kept a ton of tools in the back.

I found a 2007 FJ Cruiser with everything I wanted. Crawl Control would have been cool, and there are color schemes I like better, but its not yellow or blue or the purple ("dark cherry"), so I was happy.

New tires and wheels, front bumper and a winch on the way (and the matte hood sticker). I have taken it out for a couple short trips, and I am really enjoying it.

@mmbackpacker That's sweet! I'm a fan of the silver. It hides trail tattoos pretty well.

Added the basket extension, and some yellow film on the fogs (both looks good (IMO) and protects them in dirt and on the road).

Thanks, I'm happy with it. New wheels and tires have been ordered, and I should have a hitch on the way this week as well. Then, I'll likely be done for a while, as there won't be much it can't handle (at least that I need it to be able to handle, that is).

I have a good buddy that works at Toyota, he is keeping an eye out for me a used 4Runner or FJ in great shape. I can’t do another new yota this year.

@Dave41079 that van. I’m so tempted some days to jump the Tacoma ship.

@Strigidae I think @Dave41079 answered that. I do have the Taco almost where I want it. We’re in Maine now, not a lot off-roading for this trip, but we’re camping back down the coast. I’ll post pics of the bed and new camper now that I have a tent in it.

The next step for the van is to transplant the engine and trans from the red Subaru into it. It will double the horsepower all the way to 160, and add a fifth forward gear. It might actually be able to get out of it's own way at that point.

1986 GL. Not a Syncro, those things are too expensive, and I've got the 4Runner and the wife's Crosstrek to scratch that itch.

The van wouldn't make it up the hills to get there. I'd be driving for three days one way.
