Well, the second bottle of dye helped even things out, but not by much. Weird how the dye seams to sink in.... then evaporate right out when I turn my back. It's almost like the suede texture is acting like a million little wicks to draw the dye out of the leather so it can waft away in the breeze! I've got it stuck in a trash bag now. Hopefully, that'll slow down the drying/evaporating of the dye and help it migrate a bit into the leather. If that doesn't work.... ugh. ETA: Looking around at dye stuff, I noticed that Fieblings and others offer dyes specifically for suede. The bottles I got from Hobby Lobby don't make any mention of suede, but you'd think that leather dye would dye leather. Maybe, just maybe, there's something about suede that you need a specific kind of dye for it, and that's why the companies specifically label some dyes as "suede and roughout" dyes. Since it appears I'll need a third frickin' bottle of dye to darken this apron and get it looking less mottled, I'll have to shop on line to find some suede dye. Better safe than sorry!
I finally got serious about making an overstrike collar for my axe. It was a lot of fun, even if it doesn't hold up all that well. I've got enough spare leather to whip up another.
While not as fancy as all of these sheaths, I put together a tinder bag over the weekend. I haven’t figured out what to use as the toggle yet. It seems bone or antler is the most popular choice.
Those are some fun and useful little bags. I think yours looks great. I agree about the antler or bone toggle. I have a pack of plastic cord locks laying around and so I used them for mine. They don't look as rustic but they're cheap and practical.
Working on an axe mask for another member here. All I have left is the snap, stitching, dying and the finish.
Do you have those available? If so, what are the dimensions and what are you asking for a knife and sheath? Thanks man, and stellar work as always!
My first bag, and most cpmplex piece ive made to date. Im very proud of the job i did onthis one. Comments and critiques are welcome.
That's a clean cut, great looking bag. I love how you used the S-biners to hook it to your belt loops. I use those things a lot and have been impressed with them.
Thanks! Im already working on a smaller version for my step-kid. That one pictured was for my girlfriend. It also has a belt loop which i forgot to mention.
