The coating on my alumni knife was all ratty from use. Stripped it. Looks nice and will develop more patina with use and time. Hot vinegar bath to help it along.
Awesome! Another 3 –C[hoil], back when the 3HM was just a whisper of a dream! I can't remember who I bought mine from, it was one or two forums ago (feeling like the Matrix got rebooted!). It's been my deer knife for about 6 years now.
Seemed like an OK place to ask this... 3HM vs RB3. Thoughts from those that own both? As an all-around woods knife, I still love my Woodcrafter, but have always liked the size of the Esee 3 series, just not the ergos of the 3Mil's I've had several of. My Izzy 2 currently sees my belt more than other fixed blades for daily and hiking use, but something a touch bigger would be nice too.
Thats a tough question. I love the grip feel on the RB3. Ive used the 3/4 grip for so long it feels like home though as well. To me it boils down to the thickness and the grind. If you prefer a thicker blade and a scandi grind then the RB3 may be your ticket. If you want thinner then the E3 is your thing. Honestly, its not often i reach for the RB3 as ive switched to a big blade and a CR2.5 for most things nowadays. EDIT: Im wrong the E3 and the RB3 are the same thickness. So its all grind and grip.
Depends on use for me, the rb3 will definitely excel at woodcrafting the Esee 3 spends more time on my belt than any of my scandi blades. For me the Esee 3 is the perfect do everything knife. I'm not afraid to get it dirty or wet, it is great with food, no problems doing fire prep and with a slight convex the edge is very forgiving
I can also agree that the RB3 has shifted more to a craving blade for me, my 3 has been on my belt for 8+ years and will always have a place there. I just got done etching my alumni 3 so I dont wear off the logo. I do use my 2.5 more now but I either have my 3 or PR4 on my belt.
Thanks for the advice all. I’m pretty sure this is what I’ve wanted a 3 to feel like in my hands. Just need to figure out a lanyard for it, and how to setup the Kydex sheath.
