did he grab a gun in the first few seconds? (from guy at left table).....looks like he grabbed something.....
I did some knife training some time back with some buddies....we were in a large room with 8-12" dowels for blades...going about 1/2 speed....I learned one important lesson that night....I do NOT want to be in a knife fight!
I have been in a court room when a prisoner jumped the dock and went after the magistrate, he didn't make it that far and was pile driven into the bench by the officers on duty. what probably should have happened the moment this guy stood up. Funny thing is the magistrate concerned was yelling at the officers not to hurt the prisoner and later wanted them charged as one gave him a whack across the shins with a baton when he started biting the other officer. I suggested next time they should not react so fast.
About a decade ago, I read an adage by an experienced trainer on another channel. His advice? Never go to a knife fight without a gun.
A work colleague was involved in an incident years ago, I was reviewing CCTV of it with him. He was unarmed and the other guy swinging punches at him, he grabbed the lid off a trash can and blocked and parried like a champion. He basically beat the guy into a corner with the bin lid and his backup arrived. He could not understand why everyone was so in awe of his moves and courage...till...on the CCTV I pointed out the shiv the other guy was wielding....he had NO idea and it is fair to say that he went a little weak at the knees when he re-watched it fully informed. Adrenaline/fear/tunnel vision/ etc etc all play to screw with you in violent confrontation.
Ha! Tunnels! Spelunking. You guys got caves down there? Tennessee and Arkansas, plus west TX and NM have limestone. I did some caves in my 20's and 30's, but switched to vertical rock in my 40's. Way easier, drier (most days), and liking the open air. Wait ... what was the topic? Da'yum. Good thing this is GD.
The guy we trained with had a great saying too: "in a knife fight EVERYONE bleeds...." ...the impact of that statement carried much more weight AFTER our training session than it did when he made it early on in the seminar.
I'll write a story later (after sleep) about @Expat's comment after my first post on this forum (1) that kept me here. So, in other words, if you don't like me being here, it's his fault. For now, I'm just inches/seconds away from sleep, but somehow, this bomb from downtown fits here.
I'd find it hard to believe anyone wouldn't like you being here! Heck you're one of the folks I missed reading posts from that drew me back here! Glad to put a face to your username seeing your new avatar!
I used to run folks through the Tueller Drill to the point of exhaustion to work both sides of the equation. I stepped it up to SIMS a few years back and good shooters are still scratching their heads. My point is, even with passive retention, a Triple Nickel guy can miss easily against a committed opponent with a blade. Guys with level 3's are at a greater disadvantage.
@DYSPHORIC JOY No doubt and they KNOW it’s coming. Add the element of surprises and being behind the curve in the OODA loop and you are stuck before you know you are in danger. Stay vigilant!!
