My 8 year old granddaughter has a pink opinel kids knife and a Wenger SAK with the rounded tip. Direct supervision, of course.

It's the Ferro rod we have to keep under lock and key. Caught her making Smores Saturday night...

Jeff with a kid? I never thought it was possible. Brings a tear to my eye. Now I may have to bring Olaf, Circus Joe, and Patchy down there for a class.:D

My son just turned 17. He probably had 100+ knives. He has more expensive knives than I have.
He got his first folder at 6. I found a perfect hole in the couch cushion, and soon thereafter a string of holes in the Sheetrock. He was adept at throwing and sticking from an early age.

He rarely asks for anything other than a knife for bdays and Christmas.

He has even made 8-10 knives in the shop. Forged and stock removal.

My daughters favorite knife is a lipstick tube knife that is bought her. Just a novelty to me, but amazing to her.

So, the short answer is yes.

I gave a brand new SOG NORTHWEST RANGER to the ex-gf's boy a number of years ago now. He liked it big time, then as he became a ***** **** * ** * * * ** * * ***************************** ************ ******* teenager, he "lost" it.

strangely enough.....he had brand new skate board wheels and bearings that day.

make em work and pay for their own knife if they want one,.

Seven year old and 10 year old. Both use knives when we are camping, and have since they were 5ish. Started with SAKs, now they use Moras. I grew up using knives as tools and so will my children. Only one blood letting so far, and that was when my son was 4. Now he has a cool little scar to show off and much more respect for the business end of a knife.

My kiddo is only 15 months old so no knives. She has pretty sharp nails though so I guess that counts. Baby 2 is on the way. I'm not supposed to tell anybody yet but we're telling family on Sunday so this is close enough.

If he only had an ounce of you in him it would be enough to make him more crafty than the average bear. I'm not surprised in the least to hear that he's creative.

My kids are old enough to vote, drink and have their own kids, but I've given them each a blade or two at one time or another. I tried to do so according to their maturity level. Some kids are better for it younger than others.
