It is a Mauser. Unless you are mounting the scope forward, clearance is needed for the long bolt rotation. I have a 1x4 Leopold pig plex on mine. I have two other 527s in different calibers.
That’s a great looking rifle! Have you shot it without the brake? I took the flash suppressor and all the spacers out on my .308 GSR and it’s about the handiest gun I’ve ever carried afield.

I haven't been able to find one in .450. I could order it from Cabela's but it's expensive. I may have to do that, though rather than wait around forever.
Well, I held my first .450 scout today at the Ruger Booth. It is as perfect as the .308 model. Can’t wait to be shooting one.
I really like the idea of the "Course", kinda like the Mountain man" Seneca" run. In the winter you could run it on snowshoes. Just for fun you know. I have been thinking of adding one of those Mossberg or Remington pump "firearms" in 12ga. to handle the in house, night camp chores, also for when hypothermic survival you need to make that dinner in the pot shot.
Carried my CZ 527 carbine through a swamp for two hours this morning hoping to get rid of some problem beavers. I didn't get any shots, think I need to be out alittle earlier but I was very happy with how easy and light this gun handles while walking through vegetation and uneven ground. There is really something to be said for light weight compact bolt guns when it comes to actually walking through the woods and stalk hunting.
Just got a CZ 527 in 7.62X39mm. Great little gun, low recoil, more accurate than me for sure. I need to mess with the magazine a bit because it has feeding problems. Other than that, it's an excellent shooter.
Nice! I noticed mine wouldn't always feed the last round on the first few mags but haven't had an issue since then, figure there was a burr or something that smoothed out. Definitely my favorite rifle for bumming around the woods, I am debating putting a scope on it or getting a peep sight but for now the factory sights have been fine. I keep my eyes out for one of CZs carbines in 6.5×55 swedish, the full stock 550 was discontinued this year so now it's looking for a used one of one still sitting on a shelf somewhere.
I like my 527 a lot. I did put a Leupold 1x4 pig plexiglass on it with QD rings.as I remember it shot either high or low with the sights. I had no feeding problems.
I'm sticking with iron sights for now. The distance I'm shooting at, I will be fine. I managed a 1" group at 25 meters, which is not great, but I'm not hunting squirrels with it, so I don't need to be an MOA shooter with it. The woods I hunt in, 50 yards is about the limit. Now I just need to offload my Gen 2 DPMS in .308, so I can pay my credit card bills lol

I have some cash burning a hole in my pocket, and I'm dying to get my hands on a GSR. Living next to a Cabela's is quite bad for ones wallet, as I see they currently have them in stock in my local store. So I want to hear from someone that understands the ballistics better than I as to whether I should be looking at a .308 or waiting to find a .450 version? I rarely have the chance to shoot over 100-150 yards, and I'm also not looking to blow paychecks on ammo.
.308 for sure. I get the "new/shiny/cool/CDI factor of the .450 but you DID say you didn' want to blow paychecks on ammo. Ammo in .308 is reasonably priced, available everywhere and sure does the trick if you do your part...
Only input I'll add is hunting cartridge restrictions, if your in an area that restricts necked down cartridges then wait for the 450. If not jump on the 308.
That's my issue. The .308 makes more sense but a .450 would be more useful to me for hunting. If anyone's got a .450, I'll trade them a .308.
