I thought I remembered reading somewhere that the fire kit ferro rods were threaded so they could be replaced...Is that true or is someone just getting it mixed up with Exotacs ferro rods?

If it isn't replaceable, is that a possibility in the future, Jeff?

And here's a few pics because we all love them.... 20180224_211425.jpg 20171104_160926.jpg

I think they are glued in, but a heat gun or hair drier will free them up for exchange.

I have two of the standard fire kits (love ‘em, btw) and neither had a threaded rod. I actually replaced both rods with 4” mischmetal rods from goinggear.

I have replaced a few with longer rods, none were threaded.

Ive resisted these for so long... i have to say the ferro rod they use is some of the easiest and sparky ive used.

These were hard to resist for me. After I got the first one and a kydex loop to go on my 5's sheath I had to pickup a second set to put on my Junglas' sheath also. I don't think I've lit a fire with much else since getting them with the exception of flint and my Esee fire steel.

And you're so right, these have about the easiest to use ferro rods I've ever used.

It is sparky, but those mischmetal rods throw big ol’ gobs! Downside is that the misch rods seem to wear down quicker.

love my Esee firekit, but its purely for survival use. Last Ditch Kit - knife and firekit.

would rather wear down my bic flints for daily use. :)

I agree; truly last ditch use. That’s why I carry a road flare. If a no s—- situation arises where I need a fire now...

I replaced mine with a light my fire army blank, just dropped it in boiling water for a few minutes and to other rod just came right out. There was nothing wrong with the rod I just wanted a longer one.

I get the LMF Blanks from Bens Backwoods, but you can get some nice ones from firesteel.com and going gear also.
