This is what I'm packing everyday. It's all metal after the mod, and uses some of the best refills out there. Plus it's cool to have a pen that you kind of cobbled together.
701-402?? I have not seen this got info pics on this mod I have 2 701's , one I did an acid wash patina on.
theres a couple different ways to do it, but you just replace the plastic bits on the 701 with the metal ones from a 402. https://clickypost.com/blog/2015/2/1/how-to-hack-the-zebra-f-701
Yeah, I'll second this. I have several of these that I jimmied up and they never get a second look at the airport. The 401 hybrids that are left over after the conversion get handed out in the office or in class...
So I’ve been looking around quite a bit and I think I’ve settled on this one. It seems to check my boxes. On a separate note: Does anyone know of a pen that accepts Mont Blanc refills? Apparently, those pens are the cat’s-ass; but I’ll be damned if I’m paying that kinda money for a pen. I might buy the business end though.
I have used one of the cheap Pilot pens and put a Mont Blanc ball pen refill in it. I had to rig it a little since the refill was a little short, but the refill comes with a cover over the writing end and I just cut it down to the right length as a spacer and it worked fine. Not fancy, but it feels good in the hand. Best thing was I found the MB refills on clearance at the local OfficeMax for a buck each and bought all they had, about a dozen. Normal price was about $6 each. That was several years ago and I still have a few left. My bank has pens that they leave out. They don't have much ink in them but they take a Parker refill and the pens feel good in the hand. A little gaudy, but who cares, they write well.
I have to many pen and pencil thief’s in my life (ie wife and kiddos ) to be buying spending pens.. That being said I have found these F-701’s to be a amazing compromise! For $5 at the local store a piece I buy then 4-5 at a time and love them! I highly recommend these pens!
Cleaned, inked and ready to write, I have a hard time using anything other than fountain pens now, they areanot however very practical for anything other than writing in notebooks or journals. If you can find Schmidt refills they write excellent, pilot makes very nice refills and zebras are pretty decent and can be found nearly anywhere
Zebra now make an all metal version of the F701. Its called the F-xMD. Saves having to do the modification.
If you don't mind is love to see a couple of pictures when you get this. I really like the looks of it and the fact that it's well built. My only concern is that I carry it in my right front jeans pocket and don't want anything too sharp or pointy. I want the clutch but feel the bullet will be a better fit.
I have used this one for a few years and like it: https://countycomm.com/collections/pens/products/brass-embassy-pen I have used this one for 30 years and like it: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000087HA...t=&hvlocphy=9016167&hvtargid=pla-343873426780
I second the Embassy Pen, I have the Ti version with a Fisher refill. Indestructable My work pen is a TiBolt, indestructable but unlike the Embassy Pen it is one handed. https://fellhoelter.com/galleries/tibolt-pen/
