Probably been asked before, but I’m trying to decide which one to get. I plan on getting the sheath pouch and making a small kit in that. I honestly don’t think I’ll use the knife a whole lot but plan on throwing it in my pack for all outings. If I was to use the knife a lot, I feel like the 6 is the better choice. For total bombproof, I lean towards the 5. Any thoughts? Thanks Ps. The lack of knife use would be due to having others on me as well.
If it's a knife you will carry but not use I would go for the 6 simply because it's lighter. I hate packing unnecessary weight.
5 all day for both user and just in case. It'll do things the 6 just can't, like pry things apart. After having both the weight is pretty trivial when you think of the superior strength of a saber grind that thick, easily overcome by some extra weight training.
5. You can literally chop logs, pry apart fatwood stumps, and slice salami and cheese all day long with it.
Its true. Stuff we do with the 5 here on the farm is far from pocket knife work sometimes. I can't do everything I do with a smaller blade, but i do all kinds of things I can't with a small one.
My head tells me the 6 is a better knife for knife tasks... The big grin on my face tells me the 5 is more fun for any task The truth is... now that this question is in your head you'll end up with both (as do manny of us). Once you buy the 5 you"ll keep wondering about the 6, look at the cool pic of people using it... raving reviews... and the other way around.
I have both and like them, but if you need a pry bar, then get a pry bar. If you want to lift weights, go to the gym. Sure, the -5 can do everything, but with a powder coated 1/4" thick saber grind, it doesn't filet trout. If you are going to put TKC scales on it, get a -6. If not, get the -6HM. I like it even better than the -6!
I used to do all of that with my RAT6 -- then the 6HM came out and my RAT sits all alone on the corner.
I have the 4, 5 and 6. The six is the best slicer out of the group, my favorite food prep knife. I would go with the 5, no finger choil and better for splitting kindling. The 5 also makes a good deer skinner too.
I second that... You cannot stop at one ESEE. You have been forewarned - either start preparing excuses to get them all (5, 6, 4, 3, Izula), or look elsewhere and buy a lesser knife
