The first full moon of the new year will be a super moon due to fact that the moons obit brings closer to the earth than normal. It is called the Wolf moon because of this. We will also see a second full moon in January and it is called a Blue moon. I saw this on the news this morning and figured it would be of interest to the folks here. It might be a good photo op for those that like to take out door pics.
Yea I had planned to be up in Squamish BC , in the mountains for this . The moon will rise over a massive snow field in the mountains, and light up several glaciers.
Buddy of mine sent me this pic he took today. Almost full moon with Everest in the background. He's spending New Years at Everest base camp.
If it's near Austria, New Year's was a long time ago. It's summer already and the ice is probably gone.
I was just reading about the one or more events that will happen each month this year, including two blue moons (one in January and one in March) and a black moon (February). The blue moon this month will also be an eclipse. After this it is a lot of meteor showers and planets being more visible and such. And a comet.
