That is a spiral. . It looks like a long strip of bark somebody took off a log with a draw knife. What is it excactly?
@BlueDogScout I would start with the smell test and see if you recognize said smell. If it smells bitter/ almost grassy I would say likely from a vine or flower type plant. If it smell sweet or “woody” then I would say bark off a tree such as eucalyptus or maple or Birch or Sycamore. It’s a little hard from the picture to tell if it’s bark or not thou.
Im glad im not the only wise guy here, that's exactly what I thought lol... What are some characteristics? Is it flexible, brittle, porous, dry, wet, etc?
Well thank you all for the help. It was sycamore bark. It was a quiz from a buddy. All I had was the photo. Winner got a bottle of his homemade strawberry wine. No one guessed it. You had to guess the right tree.
Sycamore is one of the most useless trees we have growing around here. Firewood sucks, lumber sucks and in the Spring the pollen from it really sucks.
I'll see your sycamore (which at least makes twigs you can start a fire with) and raise you freaking sweet gum trees. Talk about useless, and don't try to cook over it unless you want a fire that smells like something pee'd in it!
