same question for the lansky.. .order course, medium, fine? Will i be utilizing the ultra fine or extra courae?
I can't speak to the Arkansas stones but for the lansky I would go Extra course diamond (to reprofile) Course stone Medium stone Fine stone Sapphire (ceramic) If money is too tight you can skip the medium stone, just do a few extra sets with the fine. The leather strop works good on the lansky as well, but with a strop I'd get one separate.
I don't know why or how it got a recurve (top pic) but that got taken care of today.. Also with a decent sharpening lol. what do y'all clean your lansky stones with?
When I use my bench stones I always use some cheap windex from the dollar store mixed with water. I use it for sharpening and cleaning works great and last forever, as the bottle empties just add more water.
I've had good luck with a bit of water and a nylon brush. I have a couple Arkansas stones that I've ran through the dishwasher with no ill effect, but I wouldn't recommend it.
Man just read all 9 pages. I use the lansky sometimes but mostly free hand on diamond plates. Or norton stones with water and for convex knives I use wet and dry sandpaper from 600 To 1200 grit. And use ceramic sticks and strops as needed for all. Looking at getting some real Japanese water stones too. But gotta do some more research on brands first.
That's awesome! I have a couple of cheapo diamond plates in low grit ratings, but I've always wanted to try out a proper atoma plate or nice dmt setup.
After replacing the seal on the gearbox I sharpened up the bush hog blades before reassembly No one said this thread couldn't have something besides knives
