This weekend I was in Canaan Valley and went hiking in the Otter Creek Wilderness, which I had never been in. Trails were old railroad grades from the logging days. Some of the first sections were good, but then were overgrown difficult terrain. Trails were rarely marked or flagged, besides rock cairns. I did 14 miles just over 6 hours. I did Otter Creek Trail, which followed Otter Creek. The leaves were about peak colors this weekend. First was a scary bridge crossing I blame Temple of Doom Dry Fork Part of the trail Otter Creek
Luckily there wasn't much rain, there was a creek crossing, and would not have made it if the water was high. Shaerks Terrashaerk Representing ESEE Found an old foundation. I've never heard of this place. I'm gonna have to plan a trip. It looks like a great spot to spend a weekend.
It's a good place if you want wilderness and not many people. I went in on the eastern Dry Fork Trailhead. Brochure https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprdb5090667.pdf Map https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/stelprdb5195789.pdf
