I live on 22 acres of nice south west Georgia land and I can tell you there are still wild quail in Georgia. Most folks won't let you hunt anymore because of all the liability involved though.
Great write up Expat, I love the southern charm down here and glad you appreciate it as well. I have a good buddy who trains bird dogs and has trained a few National champions, the best he every had was a German Wirehaired Pointer named Jack, I think he was the smartest dog I ever seen.
Well, one of you southern boys with some land arrange an Expat Knives Quail Hunting Gathering. We'll have some special Yeti's made up for it.
I have some land and 1 covey with 8-10 birds. Plenty of rabbits! 2 pointers and close to a WMA with a few birds. All you need is some Filson, a pair of Schness, and an LC Smith!
I also know some private land we can hunt. I typically wear a Ghillie suit (no orange). If you can move fast and shoot fast, there are birds! I call it "tactical" bird hunting. Its best to have at least one driver, and radio contact to make the hunt successful. The other good thing is, you really don't "need" an out of state license.
