Some fatwood I prepped on a camp trip a couple weekends ago. Not too shabby for a thick knife. Scrapped fuzz with the squared spine from the same fatwood to catch a spark from my ferro rod. The end result, wasn’t as nice as chill’n by the fire ring in the woods but with the 2 year old and 4 month old both passed out I took what I could get and appreciated being at the camp again and enjoyed a beer by the fire.
Thats twhat he first 5 I ever held looked like, green with the old logo and canvas handles back in the days we had a real knife store in town. Still like that version.
I really dig it too I actually had it sent from South Africa to Germany, and then I picked it up at my friends place there, since it's a bit of a hassle to have larger knives sent to Denmark due to some weird lawstuff. But here it is
My ESEE 5. I’ve had it a few years. It’s been in the woods 3 or 4 times. It’s done a little bit of camp chores. I keep it touched up and oiled. It’s really a bit much for a camp knife but in a SHTF situation I think it would be a top choice.
Not sure if this has been posted before but randomly came across this earlier.. made me cringe a bit but still cool idea. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-esee-5-gear-selector.284659/
I think I'd just have traced the scales on a piece of flat bar/mild Steel, welded a nut on, drilled holes for the screws, spraypainted it and called it a day.. What he did there is plain vandalism
Slick looking 5! That’s how I had mine for a while once I started wearing the coating from the grind. Welcome to the forum btw!
My 5 got bumped from the role of truck knife to being part of my fireplace tools kit at our new house. It’s going to get a lot more use now.
I’ve been thinking about getting another 5 for the family vehicle. The one I have rides with me in the work truck. I usually don’t remember to put the 5 in the family car unless we go camping. I’m considering getting the xl esee pouch to go with it. It looks like an izula will fit in the pouch as a companion blade along with some other essentials. Maybe it’s just an excuse to get another esee 5.
I found a pine tree that snapped in half due to recent hi winds on a hike today. The bigger piece was on the ground starting to dry out, got some decent curls. The smaller pieces I harvested off of the standing stump with the 5, should be good fat wood once it dries.
