I'm going to take an idea from another website i frequent.......each member has their OWN thread where they post their adventures, etc. (rather than making new threads all the time)

Wet Woods walk, new gear, and a stolen vehicle (Jan 08/2017)

was monsooning today, but the trials were still covered in ice and packed snow. Loaded up the Kifaru E&E
    and hit the North Shore

    popular trail with dog walkers

these ponds always form in late fall / winter / spring and are gone by summer

    barely any snow left

fatwood in the making....give it another ten years.

DRY underneath....and big enough for one person. lay some sticks to form a wall, or cover with a tarp or garbage bag and get a fire going in front of it...and your good to go.....Had this been OFF the beaten path I would have done so.

its been snowing and raining for months. Yet that ground is DRY

body length. A long fire in front, sticks and debris or a tarp or garbage bag behind you to form a wall....

yours truly, soaking wet, but WARM (wool commando sweater underneath)

walked , slipped down the trails, got to the rivers edge to take ice photos

found this stump (PLENTY of these cedar stumps in BC..) . PERFECT SURVIVAL SHELTER - remove the center piece of wood, make a roof with sticks or tarp or garbage bag, make a seat to sit on and make a fire in front and your toasty warm and INSULATED, as well as 100% secure from animals. I will follow up on this soon and do just that, spend the night in a stump shelter.

kept walking and exited the woods. Found a suspicious car at the end of the lot. Broken safety glass on the floor, big guitar amp and a backpack in the rear seat, door locks punched out.

called it in and headed out to the cold beer store to grab some post hike refreshments.

    FIN

Funny, that happens on Pandora, too.
(The mythical planet, not the streaming audio site.)

    Almost a perfect ending.

All that's missing is the hot chick.

Where does she come in?

In this scene she is either in the trunk or lying in the woods, despite the weather she will be partially topless and not at all very cadaver like!

Jezz I never get over how damp your world is up there Bushman, it's like constantly drippy!

This will be some good evidence for the authorities when they're looking for you after the guy who throws the red party dolls on your fire makes his Bushman skin suit.

I'm eager to see at what point in your ongoing chronicle this guy shows up. He's already got his version of a cedar stump shelter out there somewhere, and he's probably inviting friends to come play with dolls in the fire.

If i saw clowns in the woods, there would be heads of clowns on pike poles around my camp by the time i was done with them.

    Yeah, that's two of us.

"Shotgun! Shoot 'em fore they run, now."

Joking aside for a minute, this is a good thread. I like the idea of a personal travelogue thread.

And your pics are interesting, capturing the moment to the extent possible on digital media.

    HOBO CAMP REVISITED - Jan 15 2017

went back to the hobo camp, for a short day camp and to also figure out if i want to keep developing the site.

no one has used it yet, since i was here last. Brought my buck saw and of course the Kifaru E&E

I quite like the addition of the small pouches on the side, for frequently used items.

work smarter not harder - saw the logs in half and just break em. These are alder and silver maple logs

I keep thinking to myself that rock face would be a GREAT shelter spot. Fire in front , sit in between the fire......its closer to all the alder/maple firewood supply...and the creek (and animals at dusk/dawn.....) going to revisit it and see what it will take to make it a viable spot.

A Chris Reeves knife in action! effortlessly split the wood.

ready for some lighting! used my homemade charcoal and wax firestarter to get it going.

no rubbing two sticks together here! Zippo!

as the tinned firestarter got going i could dip dry mossy twigs into the hot wax and use them like giant matches.

left side, set up for cross draw - SCAR BLADES "Hawkeye" wharncliff . A freaking fantastic little family company.

frontside, Hill People Gear chest rig, Izula2, Benchmade ADAMAS, Nitecore P12GT 1000 lumen flashlight, CEJAY ENGINEERING SERE glo sticks in red and white.

    a damn fine blade.

as the light waned , I used my Fenix HP12 headlamp for photo lighting. I puttered about hobo camp and prepped some wood for next time

bit of smoke drifting towards the highway.......I'd like to move camp to somewhere where the smoke doesn't cover the highway all day/night.....

but damn that alder wood smoke smells AMAZING, wish i had brought the smokies i left in the fridge...

FENIX HP12 on TURBO (900 lumens)

NITECORE P12GT on high (1000 lumens)

Guess i had a few more blades on me than i thought :D

i always have a piece of nitrogen blown closed cell foam in my pack. Its comfortable and warm to sit on , and you can fan the fire with it. It sits in the front of the E&E quite nicely.

    fire

puttered about for several hours, stoked the fire, missed my tobacco pipe i forgot to pack, missed the food i forgot to pack, and generally just lazed about like a hobo.

pulled the firewood out of the fire and set it around the pit for next time, and doused the HOT embers with a pile of snow. Walked thru the bush back to the Jeep and headed home.

this wasn't here when i arrived today......i saw this and thought WARM SOFT BEDDING. Next time i will bring construction garbage bags and use this stuff for the shelter build. That pile of straw is big enough for a bed.

    thats it.
