Mrs. Nowhere drives a 4Runner and really likes it. I think the secret is to not mod the crap out of it unless you're changing something for a purpose. I drive a stock Wrangler Rubicon and really like it as well. But either vehicle (Wrangler or 4Runner) can turn into a serious money pit of aftermarket goodies. Nothing wrong with mods, but the 'didn't need another project' aspect can go out the window quickly.

There is some truth to this especially in the engine compartment.

Exactly. My latest project is building a portable repeater that fits in a Pelican case and has solar charging. Rabbit holes....

Macgyver would be impressed....but not that new imposter Macgyver, the original Angus Macgyver, who hates guns, only carried a Swiss Army knife and duct tape. AKA Richard Dean Anderson.

I live in the kingdom of Brodozers and ARs that no longer look like a firearm yet many laugh at my hollow handle knives. I bet some folks have more money in their "pocket dump" than @Jeff Randall has in his Toyota.

Two Boefengs, a cross band repeater controller, a tuned duplexer, and a gell cell battery all inside a pelican case. NMO mount out the top of the case for antenna, charging port out the side of the case for solar charging. All self-contained. Take it on top of the hill and turn it on. Now, that's the plan but I'm also looking at another repeater without having to tie two HTs together.

Mainly need it for our training gigs. Could have used it on the MSAR class just to put the repeater at the bottom of the pit so we would have good comms back to the top. We were having to do relays. Other option is a field phone but too much trouble for the short stuff we were working.

You guys should get a "tail as turn" module.

Makes your current LED tail light double as the turn signal, and converts the stock turn signal to an additional reverse light.

We’ve got a favorite campground that we frequent, Standing Indian campground in Nantahala national forest. Nice place if you’re ever in the area. Of course we made the trip up to the Overland Expo at the Biltmore on Sunday. Came back with a couple of new LT Wright knives for my boys. Good family adventure.

Man, ain’t that the truth. The oldest is taller than me now. (Not saying much) I have to punch him in the mouth and take his lunch money once a week so he knows I’m still the boss.
