My father-in-law. He's been drinking it for years and probably picked it up when they lived in Peru. He worked for a mining company that had operations down there and they moved the family down there. My wife basically grew up in Peru. I started this year. My wife had really bad headaches and he proposed she have some mate. He gave her a cheap silicone gourd but it came with a terrible bombilla (at allowed even stems through) and a bag of Taragui traditional. As soon as I could I bought my own gourd and it came with two really nice bombillas and some samples of various flavors (cocoa, lime, lemon, orange, etc) to try out. I generally just add the mate to the gourd and then a tablespoon of honey to my thermos to sweeten it up. I'm starting to come around to the unsweetened bitter flavor though. Its become a staple at work for me. Sidenote: I got a titanium straw for my Yeti and my father-in-law thought it was a bombilla.
Evan williams again for me tonight. Can't wait to spring for some Blanton's or at least some Eagle Rare.
Just water tonight. Grandmas on hospice care and I need to be sober to help my parents when her time comes. After life settles down, I'm going on a multi day bender...about the time Battlefield 1 launches when I have a week off.
Trying out a new Rye tonight. Comparing it against Bulleit Small Batch Rye for a good standard baseline. Also trying Nocino for replacing sugar in the old fashioned. Nocino is a Walnut liquor, and this one is from a local distillery.
