Considering moving to Asheville North Carolina Area in the next couple of years so I am curious what everyone thinks about the area? Good? Bad? Other? Thanks!!
Great town if you're gay/trans/etc., a yuppie, an artist, hippie, vagrant, grifter, or homeless. Neat to visit but would not want to live there. Real estate is pretty expensive.
Asheville is also known as Little Amsterdam. Surrounding towns are really nice and down home folks though. Just spent 4 days teaching a class in Waynesville NC close to Asheville. Good folks, beautiful area.
As I recall, the Biltmore had some great ice cream. On the plus side, I don't think it is very far from Smokey Mountain Knife Works.
I thought you lived in the basement already...a lot of those old families kept their special children in the basement.
The guy who wrote "One Second After" set the novel in a town just outside of Ashville. I think he may have lived there as well. It is a town east of Ashville off I-40 called Black Mountain.
I have friends in Waynesville, Hendersonville and Black Mountain and they all love it. I have friends close to downtown Asheville and most say it is decent but a little too left for them. Schools are good but the area has become very expensive.
Most of the negative reply's are true. For me it is like NYNY, I like to visit but I would not like to live there. We live in the northern part of NC and love it here. The real estate is a lot less and the people are hard working. For your business, Ashville might be a better option because of the higher income level and more traffic.
i live about 40min from asheville. we like it but wouldn't want to live there. surrounding areas are much better when it comes to cost of living / lifestyle / freedom to do what you want.. Check out the following towns: weaverville hendersonville fletcher saluda columbus swannanoa black mountain bat cave / chimney rock / lake lure i live in rutherfordton and it's a very manageable drive to asheville should you need to work there. good luck and enjoy this little slice of the world
Cool! Waynesville, Hendersonville and Black Mountain Check! Im heading that way in a few weeks and will be staying in downtown... SO i am sure ill get to experience the funk first hand.. Yah.... Housing is gonna be big for the FAM... Ive spent to many years living in houses i dont like so we are gonna put ALOT into the house search Weaverville hendersonville fletcher saluda columbus swannanoa black mountain bat cave / chimney rock / lake lure Check! I am really looking forward to it! I have ALOT of family out that way so it will be good to be back around family Job would be in Asheville proper so it would DEF have to be daily commute distance..
Seriously relooking at this move.. Our Epic move to the FAR north fell through at the last minute, so we need to find a new place to call home/ settle down in the near future. Wouldn’t be moving until the spring but we are diving into the search again. The wifey is familiar with Hendersonville so we are looking into that area possibly. The Johnson City Tennessee area had been mentioned also but DEF not downtown Ashville proper!
I think anyone in Ashville would welcome someone carving feathersticks with an ESEE. See for yourself:
There are some def disadvantages to the city propper... We are looking at the full length from Johnson city to the SC border. And 15 ish miles east or west of the highway.
