I recall reading somewhere that FirstSpear manufacture for Hill People Gear, and Hill People Gear is definitely top notch, anyone tried any of the FirstSpear in-house branded gear?

Yeah... this isn't as easy as I initially thought. It's real difficult to define a line between categories. And as you point out, there is often overlap within a manufacturer's product portfolio.

Good that you also mentioned refinement of design and comfort. I did include ergonomics as a consideration in my first post. So there is probably a threshold of quality that varies depending upon the user and the application. Beyond that manufactures differentiate themselves in terms of style and ergonomics.

O.K. I'm really starting to over analyze this now... back to just let me know about the stuff that sucks.:D

Also a USA top tier - Stone Glacier.

From the stuff I've seen from them they would be very low on the second tier

Osprey should be top teir. Easily as good as most and better than deuter spec ops etc. I love my Aether 60, light weight and super comfortable.

Thanks, I updated the list... I'm starting to lose track of the history. Not sure why I had them as second tier.

You've done a great job! Packs are such a personal thing. I personally like light weight while still retaining a proper harness system as I prefer to carry 30 pounds in a pack rated to 50 pounds than 30 pounds in a pack rated to 30 pounds. Then you have the guys that like the 1000d cordura bombproof carry a truck for a week group haha, tbe eberlestock and kifaru stuff are as heavey as my base load for a week plus a bottle of whiskey and a midget empty.

One of my favorite packs is a surplus USMC assault pack. Not sure who makes it but it's taken a beating.
