    Nice!
So, how far could you drive up? Was the gate open or perhaps taken down now?
I have been up in that area years ago, when it was still open all the way back to Indian Arms.
But then they put up a bloody gate and found all sorts of excuses (like washed out or damaged bridges, landslides, etc...) to keep that road closed. They even said that this area is the water source for the Squamish area and they have to keep people out ... (I had a few e-mail exchanges regarding this...)
Anyhow, it's a beautiful area and I knew about two cabins in there.

oooh long story my Brother....I used to run a firewood thing out of the apt underground. Trade a cord of split dry maple / alder etc for tools or food or ?? . I had ten cords of wood in my parking stall. No one complained , NOT EVEN THE FIRE INSPECTOR! , it was all under fire sprinklers....but the manager, hard ass he was, was furious........lol so i had to liquidate the ten cords pronto.......

so some dude in a $10,000,000 house in west van, got all that wood for $400 . Delivered , de-barked, stacked and with a cord of hand split cedar kindling.

    lol

April 9th, 2017 , sunny, 8 deg Celsius, slight breeze, Foundations Of A Bygone Era, ATV Dad & Daughter, Sleeping Doe, Sad Day In The SAR / Mountaineering Community......

Late start today......actually I got up at the crack of dawn and fed PipSqueak & Miss Copper kitties, changed their magic nugget litter (LOL) and had a good long HOT soak in the tub (got a few muscle tweaks that are bugging me). Fired up the coffee pot and browsed the webz for a while. At around 0945 hours, I sat down on the bed and played string chase with PipSqueak for about a half hour. Woke up to two sleeping cats on my legs, around noon. Got up, more coffee, and off I went.

Parked the rig in Britannia Beach, near an area I've wanted to walkabout for some time now. Once again, while donning the load bearing rig and the multicam pack, got some looks and more than a few vehicle slow downs....seriously? lol

Flipped the bird at the freaks and dropped into the woods.

    Old Road into Old Town

patterns.....these i notice.....I'm probably the best person to take into the woods to find old settlements and towns and homesteads....I notice patterns.....like these trees in a row, the flat spots everywhere, the growth of fast growing alders and maples, VS the OLD douglas firs and pines.....

if you sit for awhile and just look, at everything, you start to see patterns. Soon you see an entire town in the overgrown forest.

got down to the ocean and attempted to get around the point...but the rocks were too slippery and treacherous. I sounded the water right off the point with a lead weight and some braided fishing line...almost 45 feet deep . No room for error....slipping off the slick ocean cliff side into the ocean , seeing as i'm a POOR swimmer, would be disastrous...

took photos of the amazing scenery instead of trying to proceed further East.

    more, monday. STILL LOADING PICS

    vnv nation:

I'd only come here seeking peace
I'd only come here seeking me

It seems I came to leave

In your dream you see me clear
I have no restraint, no fear
Powerless I watched from faces I'd assumed
My purpose set, my will defined
Caress the air, embrace the skies

Escape the sorrow and restraint of mortal cities

Give me time I will be clear, given time you'll understand
What ppossessesme to right what you have suffered
I'm in this mood because of scorn, I'm in a mood for total war
To the darkened skies once more and ever onward

So many years I stood among
The thoughts and tears of those I served
Among my own I was alone through my own doing
All the years I walked unknown behind the faces I assumed
Powerless to clear your minds of what you'd suffered
    They fall again
    They fall again

Give me time I will be clear, given time you'll understand
What possesses me to right what you have suffered
I'm in this mood because of scorn, I'm in a mood for total war
To the darkened skies once more and ever onward
There is no faith in which to hide, even truth is filled with lies
Doubting angels fall to walk among the living
I'm in this mood because of scorn, I'm in a mood for total war
To the darkened skies once more and ever onward

I'd only come here seeking peace
I'd only come here seeking me

It seems I came to leave

So I wandered about for a good two hours in that area near the ocean side. I figure at one point there used to be several long rectangular warehouse type buildings and several dozen smaller house sized buildings. Found Ore cart gauge tracks leading to the water , there must have a barge dock on the ocean side.

Whole lower area was approx 3/4 km x 1/2 km in size.

Wandered up the old road to the upper area, found a few more foundations and remnants of a 2" fire system .

    More later.....

Could hear water under this one, its probably an old cistern. I made sure the top was concrete and solid , before walking on it...

    another rock wall

walking up the road, north of the RR tracks, found a couple more areas with groomed trees and old foundations.

    tomb sized, but not a tomb(er) <<<<groan I know :D

looking east down the RR tracks

old foundations (heavily overgrown but still standing) overlooking the RR tracks to the south

    old gas lines

at this point I almost stepped on a DOE. Curled up in the leaves and sticks and brush. No fear, just raised its head, flicked its ears and lazily got up and wandered off a few feet. I gave it its space. We had a mutual understanding, she would let me take pictures, and I wouldn't get closer. It worked out well.

Deer wandered off up the small hill and stared at me, while eating green tips.

I carried on, Found old steps

    old fire pipes

    track

looks like an old gas tank

carried on and went into the tunnel that connects the old town with the old quarry (tunnel under highway 99, and big enough to drive trucks thru...though i don't think the big mine trucks came down this way.

At this point a Dad & Daughter came roaring up on an ATV. "nice outfit" he said. we laughed. Chatted a bit then carried on. I returned to the old town side and made my way down to the beach, to head back to the Jeep.
