Post up your latest leatherwork, tips, tricks, questions, etc. There were some tutorials on the old forum that might be worth bringing over. Edit: Definitely some tutorials and tips that people should repost here. Testing a photo upload first on my most recent sheath. I kinda love this sheath. 8-9oz veg tanned leather, a ridiculous number of hours tooling it, antique gels and Resolene as a dye resist for the colors, sealed with Tan-Kote on the inside and Montana Pitch Blend on the exterior.
I get the following error Randall's Adventure & Training® / ESEE® Knives - Error You do not have permission to view media within this album. Looks like you just need to change the permissions.
Thanks man. It wasn't finished out real nice, I planned on it just staying home with me. The MountainManDu sheath was the first one I tried carving on, not a bad design but it was very tentative, there was no depth to it. Kinda wish I'd kept that knife but the 1111 and 1311 are more comfortable for me.
Grog, your work looks fantastic! I'd love to learn more about tooling- any chance you could do a build along or something?
I'll be starting a new project soon. I ordered a Hobonichi Techo planner for next year but the covers are fairly flimsy. I want to make my own slip on cover for it instead of buying a cover. I'll need to keep in mind "measure twice, cut once" so I don't have to start over and over again like I have on previous projects.
Here are a couple of my leather projects I finished up recently. I think it's prob the permission settings for the album. Grog had the same issue. The message I get for yours is the same as his was up above in this thread.
Almost. I'm finishing up a 2nd CPK Field Knife sheath tonight and I want to do one Survive! 4.7 sheath then I'm going to upgrade to the craftsman membership on BF and list all the ones I have up. I don't know if I'll take orders or just make what I want and see if they sell. I suppose I'll see how it goes. I think I'd rather start up too slow than get a bunch of orders then have people be pissed off because they take so long to get. 2nd Field Knife sheath, getting another coat of dye then waxed tonight. IMG_20160916_242600373 by Grog posted Sep 16, 2016 at 12:29 AM I can get sheaths like that one done in a couple days but the fully carved ones like the morel one above took a couple weeks. I definitely like doing the carved ones best though. Poor Slade had to wait three months I think before I got this one done for a Fiddleback Bushboot. I really enjoy doing these over plain or just stamped ones though. IMG_20160718_162620566 by Grog posted Sep 16, 2016 at 12:31 AM I've just got to figure out a way to sell enough to at least pay for some of the material and tools I'm going through without getting a crazy back log and a bad name because of it. ETA- I need a picture taking person, those look kinda gross!
