My first trip into this part of the world. All my travels have been in Central and South America.
What do you know that I should know?
Any special precautions specific to Egypt?
Best clothing to blend in? I can't find much on the Internet. Usually I buy something local to wear when arriving in a country. Hat/sweater/jacket/etc
Any food with a definite eat/do not eat?

What else should I be thinking of?

I saw a movie once. If you find a large black book, DO NOT start reading it aloud.

I think I saw that movie as well!
Low profile is how I'm going in.

Thanks! I have checked out their website, AND my wife has read all of the travel warnings.
I have, in the past, registered with the embassy in country. Don't figure it does much good, but one never knows.
I have a friend who was in Ivory Coast, West Africa, and was registered. Everything went to pot one day and the you know who's swooped in and pulled her out. She had an orphanage, buildings, and all of the goods associated. It all got left behind.
In 30 minutes she was gone, and home the next morning.

Thanks. It has been a while since middle school geography class, and that class was in Alabama. All we learned in that class was where the Mason Dixon line is at.

In middle school geography I was concentrating on the field hockey players more than the teacher.

isn't Egypt in the middle of a massive war right now? might not be a good idea for an American to be lounging about in that conflict....esp with Isis/isil and others operating in the entire region....

There is a bit of turmoil...everywhere in the Middle East.
    Business, not pleasure.
    My wife is definitely concerned.

#1 If allowed grow a little facial hair a week or 2 worth...
#2 Shirts... Collared shirt can be polo or button up short or long sleeve. I do not recommend anything with logos food, drink, country doesnt matter the more plain the better
#3 Pants not shorts with belt with black or brown leather belt
#4 Shoes.. Closed toe tennis shoes or dress type shoes. No bright colors or big logos.
#5 Jewlery NO.. Watches only if covered.... Big thing about watches as a symbol status in that part of the world... You risk being robbed just for your watch... Looking at a watch can be considered offensive due to the laid back time is not so important type of culture...... Dont expect american standard service times... 10-20 minutes to get "fast food" is not uncommon....
#6 Carrying a backpack will make you stick out... Better with a non descriptive shoulder type bag.

You goal Below... Not so tight cut pants thou....

I have never been to Egypt but I imagine the food is pretty good. I am sure you have read the travel advisories and know what shots to get and medicine to take. I always carry some sleeping pills to help with jet lag, one thing you did not have to deal with in this hemisphere. Knowing some Arabic is good and it is fun to learn. Just the basic greeting helps. Watch your surroundings and be on the lookout for people watching or following you. Most cultures are not offended and actually like it if you adopt a little local garb as you seem to know. The museums there have to be astounding.

Something like that. And a few other states, I think.
    I'm not going there...
    Good reply.
    Beard, check. Working on it.
Black casual leather lace up boots, check.
    Dark pants/clothes, check.
No backpack...that one is going to hurt. Have a duffel coming, and have a black shoulder bag, check.
    Thanks for the reminders.

Thanks. I am looking forward to the food as we will be in major cities.
    All shots are current.
Try not to focus on travel advisories, but have definitely read them. We will be traveling with an in country contact who has lived there for 5+ years. He "should" know the ropes. That has gotten me in trouble before. Locals are more comfortable in their culture than I am.
    Always watch your back, check.
Maybe there will be time for site seeing, museums, will definitely pass by the pyramids. Just being in other cultures is an adventure.

    Thanks all. Keep it coming.

@RocketmanDane hes going to Egypt, not the country club lol. Those dudes look like the guys I play golf with at Rutgers Golf Course. @SEMO if you give anyone the look that the guy in the last picture is doing, you'll either get a boyfriend or end up dead lmao. All I could possibly say is keep your head on a swivel obviously. I had a good friend that I grew up with from there. We were supposed to go like 5 years ago to his dad's place in Alexandria but his dad said it wasn't safe for me there at the time. Their food is really awesome IMO, hope you like a lot of herbs and spices.

Hilarious! We will not be playing golf.
I get the point, dress nondescript and conservative.
I do love spices. Have trained with several people from the middle east: Jordan, Israel, etc. Don't know how close the food will be to their food.

Best laugh of my day. :D

But if they ski in Dubai, they must play golf in Egypt, at least after the floods.
