I got a izzula2 but thinking I need a small fixed blade to maybe push out my folder and have less fuss and more use for urban carry. $86 with tkc scales. Worth it or not
I grappled with that question a few years back, I wanted a small fixed blade EDC, working in an office job I'd look a bit strange having a fair sized fixed blade on my hip so I purchased my Candiru. I threw a simple cord wrap on it and ran it in the stock sheath for about a year. Now I use it as a back up knife in my vehicle; keeping it in the drivers door webbing. So short answer, yeah why not? It's a good looking blade, and a work horse for its size.
You could cut cost and go with the esee g10 scales. The knife is great. I pocket carried mine in a kydex sheath that had a paracord leash with a S-biner i would hook to my belt loop. When i needed the knife i took it out and drew it from the sheath and let the sheath dangle from my belt loop (the leash was only about 6in so it wouldnt get in the way if i walked with it hanging there). When i was finished with the knife i would grab the sheath, put it back in and slide it back down into my pocket. I carried that way for about a year until i sold it because i needed the money. It also is barely noticeable as a neck knife Here was my setup with the kydex I made for it...i miss both those knives lol
Candiru is a nice knife, but of course you don't need one if you have an Izula II. Whether you want one or not is a different story. That said, I don't think a Candiru will replace a folder as it is a tiny blade with a small handle. What are you carrying for a folder now?
A small sebenza 21 that you have given me assistant on another forum. Problem is I'm holding back on using it. Too valuable don't want to have it fall out of my pocket in the yard, don't want to abuse it. Etc etc. My DPX heat folded. I don't care what happens to it. Wax figuring a candiru might be a convenient knife beating tool
I have 3 and they are my EDC blades. I gave up carrying Spyderco Dragonflys for the Candirus. I will also second the poster above who said you can save money by getting the ESEE scales. I have one of mine set up with TKC scales and two of them with the ESEE scales. As much as I love TKC on my bigger blades, the ESEE scales are better on the Candiru IMO.
Nothing has knocked my small Sebenza from my pocket. Believe me when I say I've tried a lot of alternatives and I always go back to my CRK. I carry it without a clip at the bottom of my pocket.
Sure, why not. Its all about what works for you. Try it and if it doesnt work out sell in in fsot or gift it.
All good points. Thank you. I used my izzie2 for some honeycomb harvest this weekend. Waited to long to extract the honey and it thickened. You would be surprised how cutting wax dulls the heck out of a blade. This is what I find my knife uses for. It was a sticky awful mess and would be hell on a folder. At least a folder I cared about.
"A" Candiru, as in one Candiru? Who only buys one ESEE? You need at least two of each. Just plan on doubling up on all your purchases.
True again. I have two fives and gave one to my son. I have this dream of my 'old grandfathers knife'. But I can't settle on one to make it old. Now I'm against folders. Tomorrow against fixed. I probably need to try one of these candirus. Seems small to me. A folder is twice as big open.
