Yes and design lines. It is going to be a Weighted blanket and we do not have a pattern SO we are designing as we go.
The design as you go method is my favorite for many things. I hate being told what to do by a pattern sometimes.
I like patterns for things like clothing that i make for others but if it is for me i will use it as a guide only and do what i feel is better. We are probably at 90% complete now. I am going to try it out tonight and see if it's ok to sleep with and try and finish up some more inside ties and closing the bottom up in the next few days. It is a 25 pound Weighted insert with a wild animal/ camo stripe on brown duvet cover. The insert is 90 weighted pockets with poly beads (think beanie babies) and edges 3x rolled to keep beads in. All inside of a solid cotton poly batting material. And placed inside Duvet cover.
You guys got mad skills! I wish I mama's old foot treadle Singer...can't sew a stitch with an electric!
You gentlemen have outstanding skills, very impressive. Is a commercial or industrial sewing machine needed for the thicker materials? Again very nice work!
Industrial may be needed with the heavier materials and layers of them. Im using pre war singer sewing machines so i have no clue what nowadays machines are capable of. The industrial one i have goes through several layers of cordura easily but has no reverse.
Picked up an old treadle Singer a few days ago. Took me a little while to get it sewing properly. This is just a small hank project, but the first successful one on my 107 year old machine.
Decided to move my Foraging Pouch over here On version 1.5 Now.. Measured to small SO i decided would go with a 1/2 size version should have pictures of the smaller project soon! Original Foraging Pouch project Below The Pouch ended up coming in at 12 inches wide by about 15 inches usable 16 inches total. There is inch on the top to be used for a paracord Cinch hence the 15 Usable. When folded the Pouch measuure 4 inches by 4 inches and is no more then 1 inch thick. The belt loop will easily fit a 2 inch to close to 2 1/2 inch belt. I on accident ended up with a nice opening between the belt loop piece and the Pouch I hope to be able to carry possible a knife or other small tools. I decided to go with a color that I couldn’t loose if I set it down. Been having a problem with my current machine not being always strong enough for this material.... so it likes to wander a little... BUT it gets the job done... Forage Pouch Version 1.5 This is the smaller version of the original foraging pouch im working on. Measured a little small so went with a 3 inch folded pouch instead of the original 4 inch fold. Still work to do but really wanted to share!
Finished out my foraging Pouch 1.5 today! Folded Opinel 7 for size reference Open Opinel 7 for size reference.. Finally figured out I could use my embroidery Hooper foot to get nice and close to the belt loop! Folded and snapped Open and snapped to outside Better view of snapped to outside to hold Pouch up and snug.
That's slick, I like it! I have a bag like that which I use for tinder gathering. They were only offered in "mil-spec" or "tactical" colors so I took what I could get. I'm now wishing I'd made one instead so that I could have it in a loud color. Awesome work guys. I'm about to hand-stitch a leather stake pouch to keep my pointies from gouging my tarp when rolled up. I'll be checking back in.
I posted other pics in the leather working thread. But here's a little stake bag I made for a 10'•10' tarp. They came in a little rinky-dink plastic bag that I would not have trusted to hold toothpicks in. I figured I'd need something a little thicker. My initial design came up too short and barely wrapped over the top. So I had to stitch an additional length over it. It ended up reinforcing the area with the most stress on it.
Saw this thread and just grinned to myself. Latest thing I sewed: pair of 4 way stretch Tweave pants.
