Two or more of the very same firearm?

I've always had the desire to own two of the very same firearm... mostly in the case of a handgun. Does this make any sense? Backup perhaps, kept in different locations? Convenient for when my boy and I shoot together? Topping the list would be the Glock 19 or a 22 semi auto pistol.

Other scenarios are that they are not identical. For example, one Glock 19 with traditional iron sights and another setup with an optic.

You just want to "dual wield" like they do in video games :p

You have two potential trigger fingers so why not.

I have a friend who is a very respected firearms trainer who advocates having 3 of each of your main fighting guns. That way, you have a back-up to the back-up.

    He's a Glock 19 guy so he's got 3.

When I take a training class, I always bring 2 pistols in case one goes down. Normally it is a G19 and G26. I have several mags for each. Same ammo, same holsters, 19 mags can be used in 26, etc. I always have a cheap extra Fobus holster in my bag as well. In case someone else's pistol goes down, I can just hand them one of mine in the holster and they can continue.

If you are training hard, guns will go down. Even Glocks.

This strategy is designed (at least for me) for fighting pistols. So I have them decked out identically. I realize we all like to have all different types of guns and sights and all that. But for guns that I train with, I want consistency and reliability above all else. So training/carry guns are different that range guns, hunting guns, plinking guns, bbq guns, etc.

To me, training, practice and qualification are 3 distinct things, but....that's a whole other post.....

I'm with Expat. His logic is solid.

If you can afford two of the exact then get two. If you can't and want a little variety go with something like a G17 and a G19 or a G19 and a G26. Buy all your holsters for the larger of the two guns and you can use the same holsters for either gun. That's what I do. Same with the mags as you can share mags and pouches - downward anyway, just buy most of the extra mags in the larger size so you can share.

Yeah... another reason this keeps coming up for me is my LGS seems to always have G19s in stock in different colors. I like the Patriot Brown one. Also, I'm collecting G19 and G17 magazines so this will get me three more.;)

I have had the striker tip break off of a Gen1, lost the rear sight in a match, front sight in the woods, and had severe peening of the locking block. Glocks are the most reliable handguns I have ever used though.

Yikes. Those are pretty ugly to me. I like the Patriot one you posted the best by far.

I loaned my backup G17 to a random stranger a couple of years ago mid-match at the GA State IDPA championship. His G17 lost a front sight and I didn't have a spare sight but had a backup gun. He was shooting with his teenaged son and I didn't want their day to end.

I've got 2 S&W 642 air weights. In the summer I have one IWB when driving and the other sitting in the console. When I get out I drop the console gun in my cargo pocket.

Egggsactry! I have easily, 1...ok, a freaking BUNCH of G19's. One here, two there, a safe deposit box or three, one elsewhere, 3-4 in the safe, etc. eggs, one basket, never know what's gonna happen five minutes from now...

If you can afford it, do it. I just now got the chance to double up and while it's not EXACTLY the same gun, it's the same platform. All controls are the same, holsters are the same, etc. So if I ever needed to grab gun number 2, it works exactly the same as gun number 1.
