Heres my buck from this year. Small rack but lots of meat. This was on public land So I take what I can get in those situations. IMG_0764.JPG

Public land hunting. You gotta walk to find your honey hole. We had a half inch of ice come down overnight. The roads were dangerous, sliding even in 4 wheel low, manual first gear. Ended up walking 8 miles, with 4 other guys. Saw a bunch, got a doe and my small six point. About a 200lbs deer so I'm thrilled to fill the freezer. Exhausted when it was over, as the drag back from where I shot it was about three miles. Buck 110 did the dirty work. Slept real good last night. It was a good day. My drag was a mile and i was wore out!

It looks like when you gutted it, you cut a hole out as opposed to a slit. Is that how you do it? Or just how the camera looks?

That is what I was thinking. Looks like you could have worn the deer out of the woods like a coat:D

Yeah dragging that far in those conditions sucked. Luckily we had two deer and five guys so we took turns.

I cut a hole. Start at the center of the rib cage and basically follow the white belly fur, cutting out a Triangle shape. You don't have to do it this way, but it creates a much bigger opening to get into the body cavity, and it doesn't waste any meat. I always cut a slit the way you do, but a buddy did his this way one time and I've done the same ever since.

BTW. Did y'all even look at the picture that I posted? What do you think about the hunter's location?

Holy hell! I didn't even notice the guy hunting up against the guard rail. Is that even remotely legal in your parts? They'd hang you out to dry if you did that up here.

They do a great job packaging! I do my own now but when I used to take it to the butcher, it didn't look anywhere near as nice as that!

That would get you a ticket and or loss of hunting privilege for a year or 2 here. Unless they law has changed hunting from any "improved road" which covers even dirt county roads or on the right-of-way of same is illegal. A little further from the road and it would be a great funnel to cover with the scope!

Nailed a big fat doe today.

    No pics....because I couldn't find her :(

Only second time in my life I've lost a deer. First time was 12 years old.

Trailed the blood for a 1/4 mile and then it petered out. Guess it closed up. Only thing I can think was I shot her a little far back. I don't know. Lots of blood. Shot felt good (only about 60 yards) but she was a tough bugger. Spent a few hours on it. No dogs available. I even climbed a high embankment and could see for a long way and didn't see her.

    Hate it.

That sucks! Was is gut blood? If you think you hit her far back like guts/liver she'll get feverish and try to cool down. If there is any water near where the blood ended I'd look there.
Not sure on the temp there but she'll bed down tonight and the meat will still be good.
It happens to the best of us @Expat, find the water and you'll find her ;)
