I see a lot of bushcrafters make their own cups and spoons. Is anyone successful in doing so with just a knife? Ive seen a few on you tube but lets see yours. Also, aside from the keep busy and water holding capability is there a role for these in a survival situation?

Lets see what you all have made!

An oak just dropped a limb today. I will whip one up tomorrow. I have made a bunch. I think the flat spatula is probably the most useful utensil you can carve. I found without using a gouge a smaller spoon is in order(or a thinner spoon) Almost like trying to mimic a tea spoon. As far as usefulness in survival ah.....I geuss. I use it to gauge a knife. If I cant carve a useable spoon or spatula with it without too much hassle I probably dont want to be carrying it into the woods.EDIT(As a one knife only knife)

It's not as good as one of any of the tools but it does work quite well they have a left handed and right handed version.

As promised on my down time today
Full disclosure pic, no truncating today:)[IMG]
The first piece that i ended up not using, and the knife that is chosen to suffer some abuse.
The chosen piece. A bit thick but it split with a v or u in one end. Perhaps I can use it to my advantage.
Hold on to someones hat, this may be one fugly spoon.

So I chucked the shavings out and plopped what may or may not become a "spoon" down for a pick

They are not cheap here either. Anywhere from $100 to $150 depending on where you get it. It's called the Flexcut Carving Jack.

It is a spoon......is. You can eat with it.
All carved with one knife, and ahem, a saw to make rounds.
And the new oak spoon with an older maple spoon I carved around the campfire. More tools and time equal a better spoon.
The knife preformed great. Still shaving sharp. The only sore spot is my left thumb from pressing on the 90° spine.

Looks like the front of it you opened up a bit as apposed to a bowl on a stick its like a shovel. Smart. Given the tools id say thats pretty darn nice!!!

You can burn out the bowl as well. Way easier. You said just a knife:)
