I dyed the scales black on my stripped 4 and Junglas. I used a few different methods, but a 2-day bath in Rit dye and a follow-up with some Fiebing's black leather dye seemed to soak-in to the micarta pretty damn good. I rinsed them each about 5 times and did a thin coating of paste wax to finish it off.
Thanks, I dig B&W photos (if you couldn't tell ) I do need to get out and break it in properly, only used it once so far.
Yep. Very easy really. RIT dyed the scales a dark brown, then removed the paint from the blade as I don't care for any coating on the steel, except oil of course. Next I picked 3 grapefruits off my tree, juiced them and soaked the bare blade in it for one hour. Really darkens it up and creates a great patina. here are a couple pics of the sheath. Added the Sagewood Gear dangler which really is a great product.
Did you add the screw towards the sheath opening to aid retention? I did a similar mod and much rather the thermoplastic sheath now.
