I believe @JV3 is a hammock aficionado. You should PM him. But first PM Expat asking permission to "converse" with others. He takes it very personal.

Blackbird XL with winter cover is a good system - for winter camping you swap out the bug net for a solid cover that adds about 20* to the comfort level.

If at all possible, see if your friends have any. Not all hammocks are comfortable for everyone. It's a big investment, although worth it once you get everything tuned in. A small note- a good hammock system doesn't save any weight. If anything it weighs more, but you'll sleep better imo.

I don't have access to any, would love to try them out before I buy. I leaning towards the Warbonnet Blackbird. after researching online it seems that they have a lot of good reviews .

Doubtful you'll be unhappy with Warbonnet, and even if you are you can recoup most if not all of your money on the secondary market. The best advice that can be given is to watch Shug's videos on Youtube. More information than I care to type out, and presented in an entertaining format. It will keep you from buying things multiple times like I did.

Dream or WBBB. I have a Dream and like it, others like WBBB. Either one of those could be unloaded on the secondary market for close for what you paid, given the wait times. Randy at Dream is great to deal with. Hammockforums is a great source of info (and of used gear).

I make high quality hammocks, tarps, pack covers and a lot more gear from high quality military grade materials in Multicam, Multicam Alpine, and ATACS. My personal rig being my Hammock Pro tarp, my ultralight hammock, and my bug net are 3lbs. That includes everything you need to pitch and hang everything.

I'm a long time member here and there are plenty of members who can vouch for me. I just haven't been on the new forum much lately. It's best to message me on FB and here just in case.

I have a couple of the Warbonnet Blackbirds and Warbonnet tarps as well as other hammock gear from different vendors. Beats the heck out of sleeping on the ground. There are a lot of hammock hangers up there in Tennessee too. You need to find some of them and go to a group hang sometime. That's a great way to see and try out different hammocks, meet other hangers, and learn from them. That will help you a lot to decide what type hammock works for you and lets you see what other gear you might want or need. It also hopefully will keep you from getting in a hurry and making bad purchase decisions. You will also figure out pretty quick that you can't ever have too much gear. It is kind of habit forming for sure. If I can help by answering questions or anything just PM me.
