I wanted this stove because it was advertised as running on DIESEL, kerosene, naptha, pump unleaded gasoline

it doesn’t use diesel though - which is too bad, I was trying to have gear in the Diesel Hippo that could run the stove on same fuel as the Jeep

naptha fuel up here is $45 CAD for FOUR 4 litres

    Yes, $10.25 per LITER

The BRS runs on unleaded gas - $1.95 cents per litre ….. no brainer doing the math

    QUITE THE SAVINGS OVER NAPTHA

the BRS-12A arrived in a very well padded parcel, tons of bubble wrap , several miles of packing tape.

it came with a stove multi tool, and a silicone rubber fuel funnel and a spare pressure pump cup

right off the bat, I tore the stove down, greased threads, o rings, seals, plunger shaft etc . The pressure pump was stiff , dry outta the box, once it was liberally greased with silicone dielectric grease (all I had it works great) the action was very very smooth and pressure built quickly

I filled it with standard pump gas, pressurized it with 30 pumps and opened the fuel valve partway. Lit the fuel and let the stove preheat.
It does require preheating in the cup, fuel paste is best

Once hot I opened the valve fully and pressurized it with another 30 pumps.

hot hot hot , nice blue flame with the odd flicker of orange .

snells just like a naptha stove .

So far I’m pretty impressed …stove is very well made , pump action is smooooth, and it just works . I paid $90 CAD for the BRS-12A..

The cost of gasoline vs naptha is a no brainer ….. there is no way I’ll ever buy naptha again at these prices ($45 per 4 litre tin)

field pics this weekend, I’m going to throw the stove into my webbing rig and cook a nice meal in the woods of southern BC

I'm assuming this is to adjust the fuel rate for different fuels?

    IMG_6018.jpeg

If that's the case, I don't see why it wouldn't run on diesel if it will run on kerosene.

Does it use a preheat of some form to start on kerosene like a Coleman 201 lantern?

So traditionally "white gas" or "white gasoline" was what they called unleaded, additive free gasoline and Naptha was "drip gas" because it dripped from the packing of oil well pumps. It was important to specify those differences in the era of leaded fuels because it's both poisonous and quickly damages the equipment you used it in.

Since the disuse of leaded gasoline, we use "white gas" to refer to Naptha and "unleaded gasoline" to refer to gas which most GPA (gas pressure appliance) can run with no modifications, simply decreased cleaning intervals.

If you run this on anything but Naptha, I suggest emptying the tank once your home then filling with Naptha and boiling a pot of water with it to clean out the generator and help remove any deposits. A TINY splash of Seafoam in the Naptha will aid in breaking up deposits as well.

That brass end nut is not adjustable , it’s just an access cover nut for ramming a pipe cleaner thru the generator

right now around $1.85 - $1.95 per liter of Regular

diesel up here is around $1.90 litre

cuz of Trudeau’s taxes. Over 30% of the price of a litre goes to taxes , carbon taxes. Other taxes

I spend on average per month for all my trucks , around $1000 plus for diesel / gas

Sometimes we get lucky and the diesel drops to 1.79 for a day or so.. then climbs back up to the 1.90 ish . I swear it burns faster when the price goes down :rolleyes:o_O:eek:

So I’m thinking of using this stove as an emergency truck stove….

couple litres gasoline , the stove, noodles, coffee , hot chocolate, tea, freeze dried foods etc.

All in a small box in the truck boot

the price is right, the quality is amazing

My Dad had a 1960's era Coleman 2 burner, the famous "green suitcase". He always has a square 1 gal red can of Coleman fuel stored in with it. That fuel was kept in a non climate controlled camper/topper on a pickup truck year in and year out.
The thing is I don't remember that fuel going "bad" or gumming up, forming varnish or causing poor performance/generator clogging.
My experience with them in reference to fuel consumption, says a US gal (4L to you Northern metric confused slackers.) should last months. Half a summer, maybe more. Even if you use it a lot.
That would make it reasonably worth it to just get the good stuff and not be concerned about additives or stabilizer compounds. Fill light cook eh?
Comes in its own square easy to pack can too. :)
