    Trip report!

@Twoody88 was stoked after the cabin trip last weekend, and wanted to get out for more adventures and survival skills practice.

We drove to my usual close to the city location and rucked up and headed out. Right off the bat we had a visit by Bear, a young , small year old 100lbs at most black bear.
Bear has been eating well since awaking from hibernation, fur was thick and glossy. It watched us from about 30' away, curious but cautious , as were we. Bear let us by, up the trail , then ambled into forest.

We carried on up to the bluffs over the ocean. The sea lions were barking up a storm in the distance. We stopped by the old homeless dudes camp, he was gone (he bicycled his gear up to Squamish area). Practiced traditional flint / steel char cloth tinder lighting for a bit, stretched the tired work week muscles out and got ready for the bushwack and creek crossing to adventure.

We wandered thru the forest for a bit, checking out fresh cougar and bear tracks in the usual track trap areas, as well as checked out the old cable challenge course over the ravine.

Dropped down the bluffs to ocean level and cleared out a forested spot on a little bluff overlooking the ocean. @Twoody88 made a digging stick and excavated a fire pit, which we lined with flat rocks, as well as building a chimney and air vents for it. Fired it up, got it roaring hot and prepped lunch. @Twoody88 used his massive half inch thick Bussekin knife to open a can of mixed beans to add to the pot - filled with wild rice, herbs, coconut curry vegetables, and spicy lentils. It was epic.

Wrapped dough on a stick and baked it over the hot coals , and just relaxed. Did some planning for a shelter build at the same spot in the future. An incoming school of small feeder fish has the seagulls, terns, sea lions and seals in a frenzy.....the ocean was wild with activity as they flew, swam, ate.

Hiked out, I took @Twoody88 thru the Smartie Tubes and we got back up to the trucks. Great day.

Teaser Pics from todays Church Of The Woods

But let's start with the end of the adventure first........ as I was silently padding thru the forest, looking like I usually do, I smelled Canada's Primo Green Plant smoke. I saw puffs of smoke drifting in the sunlight by a fallen log and a large tree.

Dude was sitting on the fallen log, resting against the tree , puff puff puffing on a "green cig" and scrolling on his phone.

I walked right past him silently (from behind the tree) and he screamed and fell. I said "hey how you doing today?" and walked onwards, disappearing into the woods. All I could hear was "F***!!! WTF!!! WTF!!!!" as I left him behind . Epic :D:D:D:D:D definitely ruined his forest "buzz"

more photos and trip report coming.

    Trip Report

Started out by spending a days wage on filling the gas tank .

weather was iffy - dark clouds looking over the rain drenched mountains, the sun trying to poke thru. Thankfully it wasn't raining and as I checked the track traps it even got sunny.

someone has snapped off all the fiddlehead fern tips here in the last day or so - these were not touched last weekend.

I’m not an indulger either but the air can get blue as a Pink Floyd concert in some of the campsites I’ve been in. I swear I didn’t mean to eat the whole 3 lbs of bologna and cheese… ;)

Carried on thru the forest, checked all my trail "indicators" to see if anyone had been thru the area. None had been tripped. Found more fat wood stumps, and another game trail near the highway.

Tested out the new Boker Arbolito "El Gigante" blade I recently bought. Very comfortable in the hand, slight weight forward design. Chips brush with ease and bites deep into fat wood stumps.

Got some great macros of the various mosses, and a fat banana slug.

stopped by the second creek to fill the canteens up and headed up to the bluff overlooking the trail down to the ocean.

    Photos in random order.

The sun was out and the clouds slowly drifted away, bit of a breeze still in the are. I descended the bluff trail to the ocean and prepped wood with the Boker , for a fire in the fire place @Twoody88 and I built last weekend. Got the MKettle boiler going so I could make instant mashed potatoes for lunch.

on duty for fire starting was my @Sam Wilson 1st Gen FerroRod , and my German issue SAK , both tethered to my webbing to prevent loss.

Lunch was 4 cheese instant mashed potatoes, and Indian spicy lentils, topped with loads of cayenne, pepper, and sea salt. It was epic. High carb , high nutrient, long term energy for the hump back up and out. Very tasty too.

Did the dishes by throwing the titanium cup and spoon into the fire, prepped a nice piece of fatwood for the webbing rig supply, cleaned up around the camp for a bit and just sat for a few hours, drinking instant coffee, watching the very fat seals, otters, and sea lions swimming by. Very relaxing. Far too many city people don't get enough nature time. And a lot of the ones that do, can't handle it - they have to turn to their pacifier (cell phone) to relax.

After several hours, I organized my gear, aired out the feet and dusted them with foot powder, laced the boots up and headed out. Near the main creek I scared the hell out of a guy smoking weed in the forest. Walked right past him from his blind side. Dude screamed and fell off the log he was sitting on. I definitely ruined his peaceful blissed out forest buzz :D

    Great day.

webbing rig well suspended at the back and rear sides ,I'm going to add 1/4" shock cord "suspension lifters" to the Tyr Tactical Jungle buttpack, to prevent sagging and to add mechanical assistance to take some load off the muscles. I might experiment with an X frame of carbon fiber or titanium tubing as well. BE233945-DD5D-4309-A28D-BC1D9C8C4834.jpeg
