I figured I'd take a cue from other forum members and start one thread to capture my trips, which will hopefully be getting more frequent.

Recent trip to Shenandoah with my good half and 4 of the kids.

We decided to do the "short" trail to Hawksbill Peak, highest point in the park. The short trail turned out to be the steepest of the three routes to the summit. Very worth the view.

Cabin that I believe used to be an AT shelter.

Kids celebrating at the summit. I took more pics, but the good half deleted them from our icloud.

Obligatory knife porn. This may be my favorite. Super comfortable grip, holds an edge like a champ. Only downside is that 3V isn't as easy to sharpen as 1095.

It's not so much a cabin as a 3-sided shelter. I've seen several of them along the AT in VA; a basic log or stone hut with 3 walls and a roof, and a place to build a small fire. This one was no longer being used as an official shelter, whatever that means, but had a picnic table in it.

I've been swamped with work and the boys' baseball games. I got out recently for a nice day hike with the kids, but this was the only photo I was able to get. Patchy was with me and got to see the deer in the pic.

As luck would have it, I have barely been able to get outdoors.

This is 10 lbs of hickory smoked pork butt prior to shredding, Carolina vinegar sauce. And of course a beer.

    Good times.

Finally got out, but didn't take a lot of pictures. Took the youngest 4 out hiking and mushroom foraging.

The prize of the day: cinnabar red chanterelles, C. cinnabarinus. We grabbed 1/2 lb of them, which were then cooked and frozen. Pretty small, but so darn tasty with rice! I used some in a jambalaya.

There are still some shrooms in season, so I'm hoping to get out for some of the fall/winter varieties.

Olaf's 10. Patchy is older than he was when I joined the (old) forum. Time flies, no?
