Hey all! Gonna try this again since the virus derailed the scheduled March 2020 Bushcraft class. Just checking to see who all is going, who will be camping at the farm, what species and cuts of meat we will be throwing on the fire, who’s bringing wood for said fire, etc. Excited for this opportunity and looking forward to meeting a few of y’all. Cheers!

Hey Chris it's definitely on. This past weekend we did an Intro to Survival and an Intro to Human Tracking and we followed the recommended guidelines the best we could and had a blast. I will bring some firewood, but it's from a white oak that fell in May so it will need some seasoned wood to keep it going.

I’ll be bringing some seasoned wood. Not sure how much I’ll be able to fit in my truck.

Working 12+ hour shifts today and tomorrow... AC went out on my truck yesterday... gonna try and get that fixed Thursday AM before the 6 1/2 hour drive. Got everything but clothes and food packed. I‘m sure I’ll forget something! Definitely looking forward to it!

I’ve been watching the forecast carefully. Not super excited about the rain...

I’m here and camp is set up... of course I did it in the middle of a torrential downpour. Looking forward to a great weekend!

I don’t think I have ever camped at the farm without heavy rain.

Great first day! Made some try sticks, buck saws, built a debris shelter, and friction fire with bow drills (well, some people did...). Tired, but excellent instructors and classmates made the day pretty damn amazing! I’ll get that coal eventually...

It was raining, Andy, so I had a rain jacket on. Maybe today if it sunshines.

My advice is put a little extra time into your buck saw. A few days ago I tuned mine up a little and it has been kicking it on the Kitchen table since :)

With the bow drill I found that having a good bow piece is what did the trick for me. I tried a few different sticks and they were either to long, short or straight. I found one that was just the right size and shape for me and I got coals. ( I also still have that setup for practicing at home) :)

Home and drying out and cleaning gear. Such a fantastic weekend! I walked into the class not knowing much about crafting and came back knowing how much more I don’t know! Learned a ton of new skills, used my knives and more than I have in a single setting, made some new friends and gained a true appreciation for these skill sets that I want to improve upon. Thank you @Patrick Rollins, James Gibson, @shaneadams90 and everyone else for their excellent instruction and providing a safe and welcoming atmosphere for learning. Thanks to @Jeff Randall for the use of the training facility and for not streaking. Advanced Bushcraft was everything I was anticipating and more. I’ll definitely be returning to RAT for training in the future.
