    Took a car camping trip to the Gila National Forest. Great weather, morning temperatures of 40 degrees and day time averages of 70.
    I camped by Gilita Creek and did some day hiking along the canyon rim. Some photos to share;

    Strig it works pretty well as a fair whether tent. I have used it in heavy rains and snow conditions with a improvised center pole but it doesn’t handle weight on the roof very well. I give ARB credit for quality as it has never leaked on me.

    It takes me about 10 minutes to set everything up, maybe double that time to put it away (folding and getting it back in the bag). Overall it works well and is very roomy and when warm weather hits it is really nice to have three sides with large screened windows for ventilation.

    This may not be the most spectacular sunset, but it's very special to me. I'm not much for talking about my problems, let alone with strangers online; however the last few years have been pretty rough for me. On a spur of the moment I decided to head out. This was the day before I turned 40. Despite have dull overcast skies for several days, the clouds managed to break for a few minutes. I was able to get a few pics and decided this was a great way to end my 30's.

    Don't hesitate to shoot me a PM if you're ever struggling. Not talking about problems or mental health is literally killing us. Everyone needs help at some point and reaching out doesn't make you weak.

    Thanks man. I appreciate it. Things are looking up. A large part of the reason the pic is special to me was the symbolism. Despite the stretch of drab overcast days we have been having, I decided to go out. It still wasn't looking good, but in the end everything worked out and I was rewarded ..... Similar to the past few years for me, and then a beautiful sunset to close out my 30s with a new decade ahead.

    I've been spending the last two days hunting down some fairly impressive local waterfalls (in scenic value - not flow rate) that are off trail and hidden. Topo maps and some internet info are your friend, as you won't find these on any official park maps.

    We were discrete.

    It's unfortunate that people can't follow leave no trace principles.

    Agreed. The first mistake was opening up the trail to it in the first place. People are slobs.

    Principles* - dang auto fill on Swype keyboards

    The internet is both a blessing and a curse in this regard. If not for internet I wouldn't have found out about some of the more "secret" locations like this, but on the other hand every Tom, Dick, and Harry can find out too. A lot of them don't have the sense to leave in no trace.

    Actually, I think social media more specifically is to blame than the internet in general. With everyone seeing what everyone else is doing at an instant, stuff like this spreads too far too fast. My GF posted a few pics of us at these waterfalls on her FB. Sure as S--- shortly after posting she got a bunch of replies "OMG where is this, how do I get there, etc. Etc. "

    It's a shame really. While the parks are for all to enjoy, I hate seeing a bunch of people there. Take Blue Hen Falls for instance. I remember a time that it was relatively unknown (pre-social media boom). I could go there and maybe see a few others. Now, on a nice day you can hardly find a parking spot (well pre-COVID as the parking lot is currently closed). People blasting it on social media and it's easy hike in has led to large crowds and the consequences that come with them.

    Brandywine Falls, Virginia Kendall, and the Gorge Metro have always been well known attractions, but I don't know if people leave more trash/litter now or if I just didn't pay as much attention when I was younger.

    Was able to get above 10,000 ft. and set up camp but temperature's were in the low 80's. Some photos of the hills. IMG_20200622_092731933.jpg IMG_20200622_130651867.jpg IMG_20200622_104401782.jpg
