i'm in very close contact with asians all the time...mostly chinese and korean women...unless for some reason yuengling & bulleit bourbon somehow keeps me immune i'd say it's bs.

be alarmed though if i come down with the wuhan virus (or whatever this current virus really is) but if i haven't caught it yet bodes well for the rest of you since i consider myself neck deep in there...pleasure-wise

I think it'll just give the folks already worried more to worry about. The rest of us will continue to either ignore it or keep up with the latest reports without overreacting.

Me? I'm just going to make sure that @JV3 still posts every few days and assume that all is well. And continue alternating my vitamin regiments of bacon, eggs and steak with whiskey and vodka.

Seriously thought, the most concerning thing about this virus to me so far has been the reminder that when such a issue starts in a country or region that tries to tightly control all information about things going on inside their borders it makes the whole situation multiple times harder to deal with.

My lab is getting involved in some of the response. As we do outbreak support, we'll be getting involved in doing the serology eventually, so no actual diagnosis or reporting on our end this time. Should be interesting. The response here started several weeks ago now, and fresh on he heels of Zika and Ebola, much has been learned agency-wide and things are progressing as far as ramping up efforts and making sure people are ready.

Well, everyone keeps saying "get ready" but how do you get ready even for a common cold?

It is really a guessing game based on predictable population centers (canary test) and mortality rate.

These will allow you to “get ready”reactively because most people can’t run to the hills every time there is a sniffle threat due to work obligations.

These bugs aren’t that scary. If you want to create panic, read your local antibiogram.

Exactly my point. There is no cure and if you see how many ways you can get the common cold when you're not even directly face to face with people who have it, then you realize how futile "getting ready" may actually be. My biggest concerns for getting ready would be to make sure older folks and those with weakened immune systems are as protected from the outside world as possible. But in the real world, there is very little you can do to protect yourself against getting a cold.

What about milk sandwiches? You can't go forgetting our usual southern emergency rations...

We already have infected people in the capital city, although they are not saying it on the news. I have stocked some food and water that should last for 10-14 days, in case the same thing happens as in northern Italy, where some cities were blocked for a week due to quarantine and the food stores were emptied.
I hope everything will be fine, we will see :)

If everyone would just invest in more ESEE Knives then it that will give you plenty of reason to stay in the woods and away from population centers.

Data suggests that the use of an ESEE knife along with complete avoidance of humans will protect you.
