These are my favorite sort of topics to dig into. I've been trying to do more with less equipment and these skills are at the heart of that philosophy. Thank you @Lostviking for all of the great photos along with the info (especially the grapevine knot, I've never seen it before). I'm "liking" posts to bookmark where I'm at on here. We ran across a few thickets of bamboo on our last trip and whipped up skewers, stakes, and a swamp grill. Here's a pic of me before my first cup of Joe getting breakfast started. I didn't even have my makeup on yet
Most of the time, my wooden tools end up as coals when I'm done with them. Its camping season for me so ill make sure i get some photos sent up here when i get out.
Exactly. There was a time when id use only hand made tent stakes. You cant beat the MSR ground hogs though for a time saver!
True enough! I still have some of those from back when Moss Tent was still in business. Best stake on the market.
Nice to see I’m not the only one playing with wood in the woods. . I will be trying some of these ideas soon.
Awesome thread! Thanks for the inspiration and reminder if things I haven’t done since my Boy Scout years!
