Julys challenge will be a challenge. You will take your normal edc or normal packing fire kit and one handed make a fire. So rules are as soon as you decide to do the challenge your dominant hand is injured and collection of tinder and fuel is done support handed. If you are ambidextrous you lose your best hand and it pays to be ambidextrous for this. Once fire is going snap a picture and post it up for entry.

    Winner gets a RAT patch.

You have feet dont ya? ;)

Seriously this would be an extremely helpful/mind-opening challenge for you, @BlueDogScout. If this situation were ever to truly happen to you and you lost use of your dominant hand, you would have to use your other hand and anything else you could to survive

I like it, at Field Survival they took my dominate hand out of play and had to tell people how to the knots because I couldn’t do it.

I've made more advanced in my trials. Even the wife is getting into it, because she's convinced all my " big, bad, prepper buddies" wouldn't stand a snowball's chance in the deep south of doing it.

And no lighter for me. I'm lighting off spark. After my trial and error today, I know I can do it with a lighter.

Tomorrow may be the day. I'm about ready to try for real, but two questions:

    1. How big is the fire to be? Sustainable, or campfire?

    2. Scavenged tinder, such as natural? In my regular fire pouch I have jute and cotton. Are those disallowed?

Can I use my feet? I mean half a hand and one foot is a whole hand by my math....

One more question to add to the string of questions. By EDC, do you mean in town EDC or woods carry?

You all are making it way to hard on your selfs.. Below is one of my favorite fire starters. They even make a pretty brass one :) In all serioness these are great offhand/ one handed lighters. You can simply place tinder in front and back. You press down and roll back and forth. They also are great to start quick tabs.
The small brass ones at the bottom are nice because you can wrap them with twine for kindling and barely add to it’s size.

Yep. Got one. In my EDC for just such an emergency.

But I think I may kick it up a notch and use a ferro rod.

    Sustainable fire

Natural scavenged tinder is ok whatever is in your kit is ok

You cant use your dominant hand so whatever you have learn to use it.

Either edc or woods carry kits is fine. Im more interested in the personal growth of adapting to a less than ideal situation.

    Excellent questions.

This was the hardest part for me, I am use to using two hands to Taco the Tinder Bundle.

Lit, a cool exercise I have only done with Ferro Rods in the past.
