Saturday morning buddy called me and asked for directions to a better campsite other than the side of muddy logging road.

told him see you at 1200 hours! loaded the coolers with food, loaded up the smoker and camp gear and took off like a bat outta hell for Squamish bc

Met buddy and we got beers for the camp and I showed him the little cabin in the woods.

once again, trash everywhere. garbage, food, dirty filthy wet clothing, etc. piles of it. A group of hippies had spent a few weeks living there and left a disgusting mess. Cans of food (some bulging), etc. I pierced all the cans and into the firepile they went.

i suppressed my rage and just burnt it all. My buddy was laughing at my bonfire, i must have emptied 20 liters of diesel/gas mix onto the pile of garbage and set it alight.

burned it down to ash, scooped the metal and glass out and built a proper campfire. Cracked opens beers and BS'ed with buddy (no pictures security reasons/ Job)

we BS'ed all night, did some shooting, and then I turned in. Buddy slept in his bush truck and I had the cabin to myself. Got the wood stove going and settled in with beers and read Huck Finn again.

Got woken up by a thump, then pitter patter of little paws, then scratching noises. Headlamp on full burst mode, i found my guest.

Later ID'ed as a Bushy Tailed rat. It sure loved my Cheezies! very friendly and not scared at all. Left a pile of salt and Cheezies outside and towards the woods , eventually the fuzzball left.

Slept well, got up a few times and went to the outside fire to bank it up for cooking morning breaky.

    AM:

    Lumberjack skillet over coals
    [IMG]

bacon from my butcher, cut into chunks

free range eggs, spuds and onions and breaky sausages

Chowed down, did some cleanup and packed up. Showed buddy some other spots to camp and then we headed home.

    Thats it.

Those are some tasty looking meals bushy! I'm very jealous of your nice little cabin in the woods, I'd love to have a place I could keep returning to for camping

that place is kind of a church for me. Go and let loose, reflect, think, read, cook food, play with tools.

the pack rat is an issue,,,,but i literally sat there feeding him and he bounced around all over the place gathering bedding and food. Not going to indiscriminately kill an animal.....esp when its just doing its instinctive thing. i can deal with rodent proofing the cabin, what burns my hide is the dumbfucks that undo my work......especially since that cabin has had ZERO rodents since I cleaned, bleached, vacuumed it, sealed it up tight and put stuff into sealed paint cans. Literally 3 years and zero rodents.

Looks like a fun time and can't believe the stupid group trashed the place again. Some people should just stay in the city.

Cool pics. It is not just Canadians who trash camp sites. I spent a large part of my 20's fighting this "garbage" where I live.

Nice pics, Bushy! It seems there are similar disrespectful squatters everywhere; too bad they can't all congregate in one big dump and enjoy themselves instead of moving on and infesting new places with their filth. It really pisses me off to see somebody's good efforts shat on by trashy people.

Too bad you can't keep the Bush Rat for a mascot for your cabin in the woods. He'll probably draw more of his kind so best to get the idea of cabin camping out of his head. Good on ya for leading him off to the woods instead of just stomping the little guy.

Thought about bringing him home.......but a cage is just cruel. .

Besides , the big Burmese cat Miss Copper would eat him in two bites.

Two words: Habit Trail. Gotta be better than cold, damp dirt, or even an un-heated cabin.

first order of business was getting the cabin warm. I used a BUSHCRAFT UK Official fire starter .

Cabin hot in less than a minute.

Next order of business was piling up all the oak slats that got oil soaked , in the outdoor firepit. Again, i used the Bushcraft UK firestarter (sarcasm here folks)
