My favorite current exploration vehicle in our "fleet". It takes effort to find anything locally to challenge (or even require 4 Hi in) our 4runner. Or I have to drive two hours to do so. My pickup has a lot of ground clearance and a rear locker so it's no fun. I can find fun trails to hit with the Focus on my way to work. And it takes actual skill to make it through them, versus just a boring ride. This $2K beater I bought last year for a daily while deciding what I want to actually spend money on next. It's slow, an automatic (which I hated at first, but it also keeps me from putting a $2K turbo kit on a $2K beater as it's not available for the auto) and sits lower than anything I've ever owned. And it's fun as hell offroad. I treat it like a rally car and it's comfortable on long drives. I probably won't own anything low ever again, but this thing is staying in the yard until it's dead. I get some very odd looks from Jeeps and stuff when I pass then on some of the rougher routes I take. If I can find a stupid deal on a RTT I might put one on it.
As the week I have just had away is going to be my last trip with my wonderful old HJZ80 I snapped a few "glamour pics" of her before she moves on to her new owner.....
Selling her? What’s replacing it? I’ve got a mostly stock uzj100. The shocks are shot, so I was thinking about cranking the torsion bars and throwing some OME springs on the back. Would love an ARB front bumper.
......... replacement is already in the garage, a 76Series Landcruiser, white and diesel (4.5l V8 Turbo) like EVERY other vehicles I have owned..!!! It already has an ARB Bullbar fitted and there is a 12ooolb winch in the cargo bay waiting to get dropped in and wired up. Cleaned out all my "in case" junk from the old girl and this pic is of all the bits and pieces I found stashed around it (it does not include the dedicated container of "essentials or the compressor !! The white cardboard box to the left is spares (filters and belts etc) that are specific to this truck and I am packing back in for the new owner ! "
@Andy the Aussie I'm looking forward to seeing the new cruiser. @DirtySouth that generation of 4runner doesn't get a lot of love, but I always liked them.
It's a conspiracy by those of us who own them to keep the prices from going full Toyota stupid (ala Tacoma, 1st, 3rd and 5th Gen 4runner). Don't tell anyone that they are good. Wife's station wagon with our friend's FJ at the beginning of an all dirt trip from the Ocoee to Lake Conasauga. Where we saw all the bears in the SE.
It has been a good one. We bought it new so it has been in our family since 2005 (it was my wife's vehicle). We got my wife a new vehicle last year so we're making this our family/adventure vehicle. I just added the roof rack (Front Runner), an ARB awning and a set of ARB drawers in the back. I had the CVT tent already that I transferred over from my truck. I am looking at installing an OME lift on it in the future. This was a shakedown run with everything and I decided that I'll be selling the tent. I have had it for 3 years, and that picture posted, was only the 3rd night of use it has had. Once I sell the tent, I can use the rack for some needed storage space.
I have no idea how I linked all of the text in my post to @Andy the Aussie's profIle thingy but maybe it'll send him annoying alerts or something everytime someone clicks it so I'm leaving it.
@C99c It's OK....I am currently bed bound AND highly medicated....any attention is good attention.....
