Just as an fyi: the Cornbread Festival is this weekend in South Pittsburgh, Tn. Home of Lodge.

Lodge used to give plant tours and offer special deals that you can't otherwise get. I'm not promising that they still do.

I am a "technical specs" person. A few decades as an auto mechanic will do that to ya. Here's another chart, giving height ( including legs), depth, width....the kind of minuscule things that fascinate guys like me and might be helpful to those on their way to a cast iron purchase. ( took me blinking forever to find a chart like this. ;) )

Yeah, I should probably just stay out of those "antique" stores found on the square all across the southern US.

I've been wanting a corn dodger pan. They had this Wagner and with a bit of haggling I took it for tiny bit over half the marked price. ;)

I want one of those. I have the fish one from Lodge. In my opinion, it’s got too much detail and edges. Too easy for the fish to break coming out.

A peach cobbler in the Dutch oven this past weekend, turned out perfect as always.

A really simple recipe. Grease the inside of the Dutch oven and line with parchment paper. Add a box of white or yellow cake mix directly into the oven, add a whole can of peaches drained (cut them up with a knife into smaller pieces in the can), then add 7-Up, usually a bit less than a full can. Mix and then bake for about 40min. Cover lid with coals, and just a handful under the oven (it’s easy to burn if you put too many under). Turn the lid and oven 90deg about every 10min.

And a big pot of chilli for dinner! Cooking it with the lid off next to the fire like this, combined with lots of stirring really emparts a ton of smokey flavour into the chilli, no better way to cook it!

Just picked up one of these, can’t wait to take it out for a test this weekend.
