I read a comment on another forum where a guy stated he used his kit bag for his EDC. I didn't feel the situation was appropriate for me to ask him to elaborate, so I turned here. Do any of you (comes the qualifier) working in an urban/professional setting do this? If so, how do you carry it? Seems to me it would be glaringly obvious in it's way of standing out.
not qualified but my HPG heavy recon kit bag in multicam sticks out like a blinding/screeching beacon/alarm and is glaringly obvious that it is there. If i wear a coat over it it looks like I have massive "implants". There is NOTHING covert or concealed about it (this holds true even for the grey one i had years back) Side view , EMPTY kit bag Side view , EMPTY kit bag and thin down jacket. Sticks out almost 6” Top view NO KIT BAG/JACKET top view , EMPTY KIT BAG/ thin down jacket Can’t even see my feet with the kit bag and jacket on ........
I got a frost river waxed canvas pack that I pretty much use for everything, except multi-day backpacking.
Not an HPG owner, or professional type. I imagine an HPG kit bag could work in an urban setting, but not necessarily a professional one. I could see it blending in as active wear, if that was at all appropriate for someone, but I'm not sure where else it wouldn't stand out.
Well, that's just it. Everything you guys have said mirrors my own thoughts. If I were biking, or wade fishing, or some other outdoor sport I could see it. Otherwise, unless I threw it in my laptop bag it would stand out like a sore thumb.
They work well hung over a seatback, so if your on the road a lot one could provide some nice organization and quick access to your vehicle EDC, I can’t really see any other ‘professional setting’ one would work well for though.
I've considered the seat back thing, unfortunately I also see that as a target in my environment. The crime rate in Little Rock is appalling. So much occurs that never makes national news. I hate big cities. But I can't take the god awful pay discrepancy to work close to home. So, a traveling I go.
Maybe the little little snubbie pack could work but id think the clothing would have to be pretty loose and youd have to have it set low at the belly if your skinny or just above the belly if not. Blending it into your body contour would be its only chance. Printing of the back part may get you too.
I wish there was an option to convert it to a shoulder bag or Fanny pack. Believe it or not, I could get away with either here.
@JV3 wore one at the office at least once. At this point they still stand out even on the trail or when folks use them when biking or jogging. Worn the way that they are intended, outside the woods, they are definitely going to get the wearer extra attention.
I'm tinkering with mine this very evening converting it to a Fanny pack / sling bag configuration. If I buy some skinny jeans...
Well, @Bushman5 , ya have to understand that where I work is chock full of...uh...genteel folk who wouldn't even question a fanny pack, or me wearing skinny jeans with black loafers and a white button down shirt. With horn rimmed Buddy Holly glasses. Because our CEO dresses that way... Nice guy, really like him, but damn. So, I've decided that I can just throw the whole thing over one shoulder using the mesh back as a pad, and I don't reckon anyone will pay any attention to the multiple straps.
great memory! that kit bag thread i posted was back in 2013. mudman asked me if the straps were still comfortable if worn over just a t-shirt...here was my reply i've worn it over just a t-shirt and covered with a shirt & tie...it's comfy...these things need to be tested in extreme environments! never know i could be walking towards the conference room and bamn! i roll my ankle and i'm stuck there overnight and hypothermia is just around the corner if i can't start a fire quick enough. rip it off like superman!
Wow, I didn't realize it was that long ago. My memory is like that though: some days I struggle with my own name but I can remember stuff like this or the combinations to every lock or locker I've ever had. You should really send these pics to the HPG guys. It should be on their site as an example of the bag's versatility.
