How to Wrap the Izula Medic Braid

Discussion in 'DIY (Do It Yourself)' started by MarriedTheMedic, Sep 9, 2016.

  1. Ok, so I finally got around to doing this tutorial! I hope it's simple enough to understand from pics and a few instructions. It's really not a difficult wrap. The hardest part is finishing it off. I have now wrapped my Izula 3 different times, ending with 3 different methods, and I still haven't found one I'm completely happy with. Honestly, I think wrapping the pommel, like 91Bravo did above, looks the best. But personally, I like to see the hole. It's all about what ya like! :)

One important note (speaking from experience here): If you decide to leave your knife in the sheath while wrapping, do NOT pull on the sheath when tightening!

For your center color, you'll only need about 3 feet of paracord. For the main color, I used 5. You may need more, depending on how you decide to finish it off.

Center color will go on first, like so:

Then pull the ends through and hold them up top:

Next. you'll wrap your main color below the center color:

Flip the knife over to begin the criss-cross pattern. To maintain a uniform look, I always cross left over right.

This is where you'll start weaving the center color in. Basically, each time you criss-cross, you'll pull the center color over the main color and push it through to the other side.

From this point, it's simply repetition. Be sure you pull your ends tight as you go along. Just don't pull on that sheath!

Once you reach the pommel, you can continue the pattern all the way down to cover the hole.

To leave it exposed, you'll need to wrap your ends in opposite directions so that when you get ready to tie it off, they will be on opposite sides of the knife. This is how I did it. Not sure it's the best method, but it's the best one I could find that still leaves a fairly clean look to the wrap.

Make one last crossover, but take the left side, and run it underneath the right side, like so:

This is how it looks on the opposite side:

From here, you'll wrap each end halfway down until completely covered, then tie it off!

Once your wrap is complete, just cut and burn your ends!

If anyone else gives this a shot, please post up your pics. I'd love to see them! :)

It was fun trying to figure this one out before you showed us how it was done.

Threads like this one need to be brought over before we lose the other forum.

I purchased a BM Nimravus at a pawn shop with no handles slabs. I used this same wrap instead of the ninety dollars BM wanted for the slabs. They're proud of their crap. I like how it turned out.
