So Reno, whaddya think of that Combat Axe now that you've had it for a bit?

I've got a hankering for the Ranger Axe. Need to sell a few things first tho.

And I 'need' to get a Pick as well...

Dude, I 'need' a Pick as well...

The Combat Axe is amazing. Full stop. It's great. No shock when chopping, plenty of weight in the head, batons great, keeps a really good edge, and damage sharpens out really easily. I paid full retail (actually cheaper here in Canada than they go for in the US, somehow:confused:), and it's absolutely worth the money, IMO. It's a lifetime tool for sure.

Also love the hammer on this one. I was debating between this and the Ranger Axe, and I'm glad I went the hammer route. A spike can be super useful, but the hammer on this one lets me really wail on it to split wood, which is awesome, as well as, well, hammer things.

Contacted Kaela at Winkler Knives, and she's sending me a length of spare shock cord for the mask for free. I've tried a bunch of different places, but all the shock cord seems to be a whole lot weaker than the stuff on the mask. Great customer service, I have to say.

Also asked about spare masks. They're $70 and they can make them on request at any time.

These videos are a good representation of the capability. For the size and weight, it's a very capable tool.

I've had a love/hate relationship with the Belt Knife sheath since I got it, and it doesn't seem like this is uncommon. It's a pretty unique sheath, and while there are a lot of things that I think are pretty cool and innovative about it, I could never get the tension right, now matter how much I messed with it. It was always way too tight, unless I loosened it up so much that the screws were basically falling out. Last night I took the whole thing apart and re-vamped it, inserting spacers in between the leather of the top screw holes to open it up a bit. Worked like a charm and now the retention is butter smooth and perfect.

    Stabby. :D

I'll make some feathersticks with it later and post pics.

Not having seen a Pick in the flesh prior to ordering, and dimensions on paper aside, I wondered how big/long it would actually be. Here's a pic next to my belt knife for an idea of size:

Some may ask, what exactly is the point of the WK Pick? To help answer that question, I thought I'd provide occasional updates as I discover ever more uses for this humble little tool.

Of course, I doubt anyone would question the stabbiness of the Pick. The self defense potential is pretty easy to grasp:

Attempting to get the door open on our outdoor recycling cabinet the other day, I realized it's also supremely capable of chipping ice:

The Pick doesn't shy away from 'wet work' either. This application is not without risk, but frankly, neither is any martini worth drinking:

    More to come...:D

@ Hammer: I have the same problems with the sheath. At first I didn't liked it. Then I felt that it´s pretty comfortable to wear, but the retention is too much.... I couldn't get it out without ripping my pants apart hahah I think I have to do the same.

Does anyone else here have some experience in loosening the tension of the Winkler-Sheath?

I think I'm in the market for an operator. Anybody got one? If so, how do you like it?

I saw the one Bushman has and it was...conceited coveteness at first sight. ;) That skinny twig would be a fantastic fish/ small game/vegetable knife.
