Oh that's cool! Is he on IG? Would like to check it out. Really like the look of hollow handled knives (too much First Blood growing up lol) just have trouble finding ones that are good quality. Martin obviously (and the Martin version from Boker as a budget option). Just don't know of many others.

I did get to check out a CR Uberjane that was super slick. But that about the extent of my hollow handle knife experience.

@Caleb O, I believe I have his FT KEPHART on my IG. Ergos are phenomenal. @Sam Wilson knows how to make a good blade.

Working on a new project and thought I would post along here and get feedback. This a prototype, so everything is basically being made up in my head as I go along, as I only had a basic concept to start with. That being said, since this will be basically a mini WIP I invite feedback. This is being posted on my IG as well, but that isn't an optimal platform for feedback.

The concept is (essentially a mid-tech) a hollow handle puukko. A straight utility work knife with a built-in matchsafe. This also represents a deviation from my usual full custom work, in that I will be using pre-made puukko blade blanks. I will be custom making a guard, hollow handle/buttcap, along with some possible accessories, and for now at least, a factory leather sheath that I fine tune and custom fit to the knife.

The reasons for this are to cut costs and time involved to simply make, grind and heat treat a simple carbon steel blade, and also open my work up to those who don't want to spend several times more but still get custom level fit/finish, and to be able to utilize/enjoy the hollow handle knife concept.

I will add pictures as I go, and if you use Instagram you can find me there @wilson_custom_knives. This is Dysphoric Joy's thread, and if he doesn't want this here I can edit it out and start a new one, no problem at all. This just seemed like the most convenient place to put it and keep it from getting lost. Your call DJ, no issues whatsoever.

So here is the starting point. A factory puukko blade, and I'll be doing the rest myself. I will try and post pics as I go so that those interested can follow along.

Oooh, so impatient young man! Pics are coming, lol. No guard per se, but a bolster.

Well then, just for you I will go ahead and post the rough-fitted guard. It will be very close to the handle in size.

I won't be silver soldering these (to keep costs down) and will be going for a good to very good fit. Perfect fit is too expensive and also isn't necessary to fit the style of the knife, in my opinion. It's also impractical due to the forge scale left on the blade, which isn't perfectly flat.

Excellent question. Right now I'm shooting for the $200-$225 mark. Depending on machining and the accessories, we'll see what happens.
