First friction fire ever!!!!!!! Im soooo happy!!!!!!! A few seconds later my chiice of using paper for holding my tinder was pronounced a bad idea when it went up in flames too. FIRE!!!!!!
^ Congrats. Now that is an accomplishment. I was happy enough with cerro rod. Never done friction. Probably won't try.
Hey fire bugs, I'm wanting to try flint and steel. I live in Wisconsin and have really no idea where to find flint style rocks or if we have any. I'm digging around the internet but it's hard to know what BS or not. Can anyone give me some pointers like where to look geographical areas and what to look for to ID flint. I watched @91bravo vid and I need to try it.
We don't have a lot of flint around here, it's mostly quartz. There are a lot of different rocks that will spark on a steel. You just have to pick up a bunch of different ones and try them out. Non of the sandstone variants will spark a steel.
I've gotten chunks of concrete to throw w a spark with a steel also. Not traditional, but good to know in a pinch.
Obsidian sparks like CRAZY! We have some here, but there are only certain spots where you can find it.
For sure I found something on a gravel road it throws sparks but I have no idea what it is. I have no idea what I should be looking for as far as a good spark
Lube the bearing block and friction fire is all win and no whine. Still not sure how it all works but ive found a few ways it dont.
The deer and hogs weren't moving around my bow stand so rebaited our camera sites and decided on some after lunch coffee and a fire at our hangout spot. As usual the fire was lit with my Junglas, esee basic fire kit, a plain cotton ball and fatwood.
