....the red arrow indicates the spot where a 4- 4.5m salty was floating under the bank. I tried to let the two youngsters know it was there but got told to f-off for my trouble. I then got my camera out... :D Sadly I missed the action with the camera (busy pulling up a Barramundi) when it surfaced a few meters from the edge of the roadway about 30mins later....there was yelling and running involved....LOL It was not hunting in reality, if it were one of them would have been toast.

...it's coincidental I'm sure...overnight I received an email and some pics from the guy I hunted in Mozambique with, they just took a 4 meter croc on the Zambezi and when cleaning it found the stomach contained the remains (clothing mostly) of a young child. Natures way of reminding us we are not the apex predator in so many places !

I'm with Bushie on that one.

I like living well north of most venomous creatures
(except the woman who got me to this state, but that's a different kind of venom    ).

I may get eaten by a bear, taken down by a cougar, or die in the snow in January at -10F.

But I won't be injected with venom from a snake or spider up at this latitude (45º N).

....those big lizards are actually an important part of the ecosystem, broadly (in Qld and the NT here) there needs to be a discussion around their numbers that is less emotive that that which has been occurring. That said we shot them to near extinction till that stopped in the 70s and now that have bounced right back. In the case of the fisherman above, if I am to be honest, I would be cheering on the croc that took him (or the stinger that wrapped around his leg and killed him), he he a total imbecile and the gene pool would be better with him removed ! If I am killed fishing, hunting and such, where I have entered the native home of the beast that gets me, well that is life and part of the reason I do those things, I would not wish the critter killed for it. That said, if a Koala mauls me to death in my garage, that fecker needs to be shot...the garage is MINE !!!

Has anyone heard of the "hybrid" rattlers? Rumor has it that they are now present in the San Bernardino and Angles National Forests. Supposedly the desert and mountain species have produced offspring that appear as one species but have the venom of the other. I have not ran into any of these, but my buddy flew someone out that declined beyond very rapidly. Friends of the patient claimed it was not a diamond back and showed my buddy the dead snake (not a practice we encourage, picture will do just fine....) and receiving hospital (patient follow up) said the typical diamond back anti venom was otherwise ineffective.
