Found a striped garter snake by the porch but she was too fast to get a picture. Haven't seen one for years, I wonder if the fire ant invasion was the cause?

Damn spider bit me on my foot without me even realizing it.

Foot just got real itchy all of a sudden, then I feel some pin point swelling, look down and see two puncture marks, roughly 4mm apart.

An area about the size of a Toonie around the bite is red and itchy, with the swelling localized to the bite marks.

No idea what type of spider either, so I'm erring on the side of caution and monitoring it (and myself).

Family member with a higher level of first aid was also made aware, in case any complications arise.

Just wish I knew what sort of spider it was... Had to have been a good size for the fangs to be so far apart.

Keep your foot clean and monitor for lymphangitis.

Swelling is down with no other symptoms or any adverse reactions. And my lymph nodes were already swollen due to a cold I just got over a few days ago.

    No noticeable change, though.

I think you should amputate at the knee immediately Reno...."it's the only way to be sure" (to quote a favourite movie of mine).

It can be tricky. All the ones I've seen have been by accident. And even then, I don't see them that often. And I'm in the desert quite a bit. But they are beautiful! It's like seeing a dinosaur, stepping out of time!
