I need to make up some kits. One for an EDC bag and one for a vehicle.

    Let's see what you got.

I've almost got our two vehicle bags done, but they'll have some things in them most people won't carry. Once I get them complete I'll do a show and tell.

Chinook does a good job packaging gear. I design my own kits and really prefer 4-0 in a FS-2 for general suturing.

Do you have any experience with Top Closure yet?

I have a bunch of 4-0 FS-2/PS-2 and a few Chromic. I've been practicing since I left your place, and I have a buddy in class with me that said he wants to try it out too. I also have a half dozen or so vials of lidocaine because I'm a sissy.

I throw other stuff in too, nothing fancy. Mainly 2-4/0 vycril for sub-q and plainass ethilon for the outside when I cant get away with derma bond or staples. I couldn't tell you what hook without looking. I got used to using whatever falls onto the tray years ago and I thank the guy that changed my way of thinking. I do neat sutures, but plastics is way out of my depth. I've been a huge supporter of the IT Clamp as a viable alternative to salvage/hemorrhage control wound closure.

The IT clamp is a pretty neat product as a quick stopgap. It's fun watching Uncle Hugh wear one around like it's a fashion statement.

A coupe of years ago REI was running a good sale so I picked up a bunch of their backpacker first aid kits then supplemented each with additional items I felt were missing from the pre-packed list. I put one in each vehicle and one in my daypack. I gave a couple as gifts as well.

We have only had to pull a few small items out in that time with one exception. This summer my wife was in a minor vehicle accident and the other driver had a gash on his head. We used items from her vehicle kit to stop the bleeding and bandage it.

This kind of falls in line with what my wife and I were talking about when we started building ours. We want a really good comprehensive first aid kit...which gets pricey...but our goal is to never have to use it.

I wanted something that was pretty comprehensive in contents but still small enough to be practical to carry everywhere. I looked at the contents list and compared them to lists online for what people recommend carrying. There were a couple of things missing and a couple of things I wanted more of so I just purchased the missing items at CVS and stuffed them in the kit. The zipper is definitely being pushed to hold everything in but it works.

    Pics later.

I have a BC (Canada) Level 2 industrial FAK. It is both for home, camp and vehicle usage.

The bag it's in is pretty piss poor construction though. Seams gone, handle turn out. Plan to put the contents into a pelican case soon.

They are nice and well made. I just got the new one . I like it even better. Larger and has the built in Med pouch. I did like the CCW compartment better on old style but haven't used the new one yet so might change.

Pics as promised. Will edit for contents later.

In the left pocket are NPAs, 14ga needles for chest decompression, CPR mask, and a SAM splint.

    20160914_162903.jpg

In the right pocket is a stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, and a pulse oximeter.

    20160914_163002.jpg

In the front pockets are shears, penlight, forceps, gloves, bandaids, glucose gel, and an emergency blanket.

    20160914_163239.jpg

Right interior pocket has more bandaids (can't have too many), instant cold packs, saline flush, two tubes of eyewash, bag of general stuff (ointments, iodine wipes, alcohol wipes, burn gel, etc.), ibuprofen, meclizine, and loperamide.

    20160914_163412.jpg

The left interior pocket has a large ABD pad, smaller ABD pad, gauze, tape, coban, triangle bandages, IV start kit and tubing, H-bandage, sutures, lidocaine, syringe, filtered needles and injection needles. Not pictured are 20 individually wrapped 4x4 gauze.

Items I still need to add: chest seals, glucometer, bag of normal saline, bottle of betadine, and I'm sure a handful of other things.

There are enough bandage bags out there so ours is going to be aimed at trauma more than anything.
