Got these motocross tires and rims for $60. 80% tread left. I’m happy with it for my cart 18” diameter...
5 min away from two new 650B Sun Ringle HELIX TR27 rims , Swiss DT spokes, shimano disc rotors , 15mm thru axle shimano XThubs These were spare wheels for a race team, mounted in the team trailer . $90 cdn each.
$600 cdn set of front wheels....for $180 cdn after taxes. I wanted 20mm thru axle hubs, but these 15mm will do Just Fine. I have literally spent a month online looking at wheels and looking at anywhere from $600 - 2000 wheelsets. Finally had enough of that and happened to get a Bro Deal on these. After seeing what the race team did with their bikes on the same wheels.......I have 110% confidence in these wheels for the mundane task of rolling down a highway or FSR with gear. the aluminum for the cart build is ordered, will be cut this week! also going to order a set of wider sealed bearings from SKF
Dan from http://smithindustriesltd.com/ just 10 minutes away, will be custom machining me a 36" long double ended 15mm OD Thru Axle with allen bolt end caps , out of 6061-T6 aluminum rod. The machinist said it would be MORE than strong enough for the loads i'm planning to carry. Its going to be a perfect machined fit for the hubs on each side. Cost will be about $150 ish but it will simplify the mounting big time. They were quite excited about the cart build too. also did some hub maintenance on the new wheels, removed the thin shimano factory grease and replaced it with some high end waterproof grease. The hubs actually have cup and cone bearings, but thats ok....they are super easy to field clean and repack, like 5 minutes per hub, and spare bearings and cones are less than $10 per hub. I plan to have a little tool/spare parts bag in the loadout. new factory grease. even newer synthetic waterproof grease (and a new cone wrench)
got the aluminum today. main deck mock up with rough load out and wheels. Front/back and sides will be fastened with Ring bolts, for running lashing rope thru
I've been following your thread with interest. I have the same Pelican cooler you do and love it but it is very heavy. I believe it is a 24 quart? Anyways, Pelican now has a 20 quart and although I haven't checked weights it is much lighter than the style we have. May be worth looking into.
^ hey Brother JBS! that 20Q pelican cooler i have is the OLD style 20 Q...........I think my fellow Canadian Klynesquatch or Mckrob here in Canada has the new version you mention....its deeper, and a bit lighter. ya think the 20 is heavy............ load up the 45 or the bigger Pelican coolers with ice and beers and meat and they require two people to move them.........
Mine is pretty light but only does 3 days of ice (still plenty for a 20qt) I'm curious how much your old one does?
The old ones only do about the same. 3 days seems to be the max for all these roto coolers....and that's only if you pre chill them before you add ice And I also have a 45 and the 110 pelican. They are no joke when you get them full. My weekends of drinking are behind me or I would invest in one with wheels. The pelicans were the best cooler I could find 4 or 5 years ago when I was using them hard. I broke 3 yeti's in 2 years and have abused the pelicans just as much and only broken 1 latch. I trail road thousands of miles in a rzr with coolers and had lots of damage from various rolls and mishaps.
That's good to know, I get 3 days of ice without pre chill and probably another day of cold ass water. I also have a cabelas 40qt and I've gotten up to 10days with it in reasonably hot weather, very impressed but I'd probably but another pelican if I were starting again
